Roman or cellular shades in master bedroom?

I need new blackout shades for master bedroom. We've had cellular shades, but thought Roman Shades would look nicer for a Master Bedroom. Do they often look wrinkled? Windows aren't very big (39"Wx36"L).

Any suggestions on best place to buy for nice, but affordable. We last bought the cellulars from Blinds to Go, but thought they were pricey. TIA!

I like drapes in bedrooms

and find they are best for real blackout too.

Layered treatments in bedrooms is a MUST!

This way it will provide you the utmost control over light/privacy. And it looks delish.

Romans will always look 'wrinkled' (depending on your fabric selection), it's a necessary evil, so to speak. Perhaps instead of Romans, try a black out roller shade.

I vote for blackout weight solar shades. If you do an inside mount, you could use a small integrated valance that's the same color as your trim. Of course, with an inside mount, you get a bit of light leakage around the edges. If you wanted to go all out, you could do motorized roman shades with blackout linings. Remember the California bedroom in the movie, The Holiday? I also like plantation shutters. They don't provide perfect blackout, but they certainly are easy to maintain. They make them now without that stupid center vertical control bar that used to always get broken.

I was really glad to see the upholstered bed in the second bed option, cause as I was looking at the room pics & sketch, that what I had in mind IMMEDIATELY. I LOVE that room (LOVE small spaces) & here's my suggestions: 1. Upholstered bed in natural linen. 2. Closet wall & crown moulding in SW Westhighland White. Walls & ceiling in Canvas Tan (flat) 3. Bedding in a soft color...no pattern. Pattern will only make the room smaller. 4. An upholstered bench at the end of the bed in the same linen as the bed with perhaps contrast welt in the color of the bedding. Ebony legs. (Check out Bassett Furniture for both the bed & the bench as an alternative to where you're looking) 5. Ditch the globe pic. Whatever goes over the bed needs to be a simple stretched canvas in soft colors, or sepia tones. 6. I vote for simple bamboo or burlap roman shades inset on the windows. 7. Think more about texture than color & pattern in this room. 8. Consider these for over the nightstands to save all table space. omg, I just got so happy with my bedroom and today the demo on the adjoining master bath began and it has all gone to hell so fast! I know it will all be worth it but holy cow, what an ungodly mess. The DUST, the dust!! I'm going to head out and buy five--ten more of those huge thin plastic drop cloths tomorrow first thing just to protect furniture in other rooms from all the dust. I doubt I could make those shades, but perhaps I will try... my mom is visiting this week and she is an absolute genius with a sewing machine. Maybe I'll see if she is game.:)

We have a master with a lake view and although it might be a bit more than your budget, we have a blackout cellular cordless shade with motorized lift. It goes across a window similar in span to the three panes on the left side of your photo. It has a remote control and it is a fun thing for us to press a button to behold the morning view from the bed before getting up. We have non-motorized cellular shades on our smaller windows.

My romans never looked wrinkled. They have a blackout liner that gives them some heft, so maybe that is the difference. However, they allow a lot of light to come in at the sides since they do not sit flush with the window frame. I have roller shades under them, but they are not light blocking since they make the room too dark during the day. I have privacy issues and can't just open everything. I curse my neighbors who refuse to turn off their flood light at night!

Honeycomb Black out shades are a great option for the installation. I see in the pic that your previous blinds were mounted directly to the window trim...bad decision. Go with minimalistic bottom up top down blinds that mount inside mount the your window. Ours for example require only 1/2 inch of flat surface to be installed and you will get the best of light management and privacy.
