Please help with guest bedroom layout
Comments (26)WOW mjlb - some great ideas. I've always had one vision in my head but this is a wonderful place where strangers come up with great ideas. Now I need to wrap my head around it. Why the tub/shower and not just a shower? I thought most people would prefer only a shower. This is an old house that was changed over the years. Original brick house built somewhere 1835 - 1845 (it was always listed 1825 but old maps did not show it then). Addition - where this room is located was added 1860's or so and then converted it into a 2 family in 1914 and this room into a kitchen. I think the addition was the summer kitchen and this was a servant's room. The "small" room turned into the pantry for the 2nd floor kitchen in 1914. The doorway into the main house was added when converted into a 2 family. The wall where the bed would go isn't flat but I may be able to work around it (sent DH and DS to take measurements and was surprised they weren't more exact). The window part jets out a little plus the "pillar" made of brick. Here are more pictures of the room Looking into the new guest bath Pantry built in I would like to keep but open up the top. Maybe I could put the frig on the right side where the sink will be located? I hate to remove the drawers. Should I strip the paint (sandblast?) off the brick? It's painted now but in a few places it's peeling....See MoreGuest Bedroom--Please Help Me Design
Comments (12)Autumn, I would suggest that you look at nightanddayfurniture.com. You say this will be a seldom used room you don't want to put a lot of $$$ into. However, you want it to look nice. Furniture made by this company is ready to assemble (rta). I've had their Chameleon bed for about four years, and it still looks like new. At that time cost was about $550 for a double bed. It has a lot of custom options. The headboard panels pop off if you want to cover with your own fabric. The bedrail adjusts to two different heights. Other accessories include roll out under bed drawers and a fold out footboard bench. Matching nightstands, dressers, chests, mirrors, and desks are also available. I purchased less expensive wood rta under bed drawers from another company and stained them to match the bed. Two drawers were $110 and push further under so I'm not hitting my toes when making the bed in the morning. I only use a foam mattress, no box springs, and all guests have commented how well they sleep. They also have a four poster bed, rattan bed, and other styles. Unlike you, my bedroom is tiny. I used an entertainment drawer with a supporting corbel beneath from Kraftmaid on each side of the bed to allow easy access to the under bed drawers. These are in white and the bed is stained cherry. I purchased a rta cherry coffee table from Night & Day and cut up the top so the night stand tops would match the bed. The bottom line is to use your imagination to do what best meets your needs....See MoreTrying to decide on guest bedroom ideas
Comments (8)I like the 2nd one better. the darker palette seems more in keeping with today's floral trend, whereas the first pic looks like something my grandma would have chosen in the 80s. the scalloped edge doesn't bother me. I think it's because the other items in that room are not very girly. the simplicity of the sisal rug offers a counterbalance. also note how uncluttered the room is in general. as for the wall color, I feel like we need more info. can you post pics of your guest room? I'm curious to know what color the flooring is, and what you're thinking for other accessories....See MoreGuest bedroom help please - Paint, Decor, Nightstands
Comments (7)What are the paint colors in the rest of the home? What will the flooring be? My first thought for your room (without knowing more) was BM Pashima. It’s a warm and neutral greige. I’ve always painted my guest rooms in lightly warm colors, and gotten lots of compliments for how cozy they feel. I think navy curtains sound great, and I’d keep the beige sheets. You can see how Pashima looks deeper depending on light (do a search for lots more examples) — Being a greige tone, it looks good with warm or cool colors. In this light, it takes on a more gray feel: It is fairly monochromatic, I don’t know if you like that (I do), but good for adding in accent colors. I’m not sure what a lighter version on the Pashima color strip might be, but it might be worth looking into if you feel this is too dark....See Morenemobaby
