Guest bedroom remodeling Do's and Don'ts
Comments (42)raehelen, Congratulations with starting you project! Starting the project means 50% of work is done, just don't forget to multiply estimated time by three! Thank you for the link. Believe me or not, but I prefer old fashion toggle switches, they are more convenient and are easier to handle in the dark. I will replace bathroom switches with the fancy ones anyway but for another reason, I have a z-wave network at my home that allows to control lights, locks and other stuff but old fashion z-wave toggle switches discontinued and only rocker z-wave switches are now available. When you turn lights and fan in the bathroom on, Z-wave controller will automatically turn them off after 20-30 minutes. Very convenient feature. Good luck with your project, have fun!...See MoreUpdate: Guest bedroom yellow no more
Comments (11)Thanks everyone! cherigw, I did like the yellow, but after awhile I started to feel it was almost like a children's room. Maybe it's the trend lately with the warm greys, but I always like greyed colors in general. Honestly, I liked the yellow in late afternoon but hated it in the morning. If I were to paint yellow again, I would make sure it's not lemony but more like EK Honeysuckle or Restoration Hardware Butter, which I have in my kitchen. My mom's whole apt.(my basement) is yellows so I feel I have yellow in there as well. After seeing Pirula's photos of her bedroom I knew I wanted something similar. It was either between off white and Stony ground. Stony ground won out because it was a bit deeper in color for the bright sunlit room. Thanks everyone again. I feel like I finally got a color right! I was feeling so down on myself because I wasn't 100% thrilled with my living room choice....See MoreBedroom - Ideas for rest of bedding etc. Trying to pull room toge
Comments (14)This may be a dumb question but are matelasse covers heavy? I was looking at some of those too but I never even heard that name before I came to the forum. I really don't know what I'm doing as far as trying to layer a bed. You can see the bedroom going in and out of the main bathroom so I'd like to get this room looking decent. My goal is to have all the rooms in order so the doors can stay open. lol Tina - Thanks for the suggestion. Deep down I knew the vellux wasn't probably very desirable all by itself. You're right about the solid cover and patterned folded down. I do like how people combine different fabrics but I don't really know what else would look right with it. Also don't know if that would really be for me, iykwim. I did a search for the pick stitch and I like how it looks. I'm thinking either the white or sandalwood would be best. I'm leaning towards white but would that end up being too stark? You're saying you'd also get the pick stitck shams? Do you sleep on those type of pillow cases? They're just for pretty right? I really need to get this room painted first. Going to get some samples and make this on my near future to do list. Here is a link that might be useful: pick stitch...See Moreplease help with guest bedroom ideas
Comments (25)SW Sea Salt is a beautiful and restful color- allow IT to shine, not become a backdrop for a bright patterned bed-in-the-bag set. Make the room fell larger by drawing the eye to the entire room, not a narrow focus to the patterned bed. I'd choose a hotel look-white duvet!, as it will not limit your other choices in the room (Pillows, wall art, drapes, rug? ). Add contrast to the cool blue green gray of sea salt with warmer or dark wood tones... An old design rule- every room needs a bit of black- - think curtain rod or darker night stands (new or painted dark) Darker nightstands look gender neutral, whereas white nightstands will lean feminine. Mirrored or silver nightstands only offer one look-glam feminine.. Add some light reflective shimmer- silver metallic lamps (or Mercury glass) Below pic shows an accent mirror above and between he beds. Note the mix of pattern scale below - large patterned beige check & medium patterned blue floral with beige Here it is with off white bed, white tables, but with a warm wood floor. White tables gives a more feminine look Here is is in a living room - Another lLR - white with warm wood. Aqua vase for fresh flowers /stemin a guest room.
