Take a look at BM's Desert Tan or SW Ivoire. I would check swatches of that along with your Mannered gold next to your bedding and on your walls. Depending on your light one may be a better color with your bedding and still give you the look of Bonnies Mannered gold. Both Desert Tan and SW Ivoire look great with red.

Try the MG! It looks gorgeous, but be prepared with a plan B color in case it is too strong in your light.

I'll get samples of all the potential paint colors first. I was really leaning for a gold color though. I was just hoping I was on the right track. I'm thinking the MG won't seem as dark since the room will get decent lighting once I change out the curtain situation.

Anyone have any thoughts about how I can layer the bedding?

Shee, these are pics of my old MBR in my former home in NJ. This may give you some idea of the MG and your bedding. We used a variety of colors from SW and that particular strip. Disclaimer, some of the pics are dark but that is because of my horrible picture taking skills, the room itself did not feel dark at all. I miss my old room!

What if I folded the comforter half way down and had either a white blanket or ivory blanket exposed. Basically like Deb's. Matching red pillow cases standing up in the back, white in front and make a gold (pintuck? is that what it's called) silk pillow with fringe for in the middle. ?

I'm afraid the vellux blank alone will be too cold. And they don't come in white that I can find. It looks like ivory or tan. However, that alone isn't enough. I usually throw another blanket on top of that and I'm good to go. What about a white down comforter in place of the vellux blanket?

Re: the vellux (I'm a fellow vellux user LOL)...couldn't you just turn it down far enough beneath your decorative bedding so that it wouldn't be seen when your bed is made? Don't know if that would work, hadn't thought it all the way through, but thought I'd throw it out there. I know there is no way I'd be getting rid of my Vellux, though--the thought of anything heavier over me than that makes me shudder :-o

I agree with Jbrig. If you want your new bedspread on your bed all year long, and it will be too hot in the summer to use, put a lightweight blanket under the spread, and that way you can fold it back to the end of the bed when you sleep.

I bought THE softest blanket from Walmart a few years ago, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It may be Vellux, but in the winter I keep it on the sofa to snuggle under. Unless company is coming over then I quickly ditch it to a back bedroom! lol

I've had this blanket for about 5 years and the more I wash it, the softer it becomes. Walmart can be good at times. :)

Jbrig - So you're saying to cover the vellux up with the red comforter completely? I was hoping to not pull the comforter up completely because of the cats nails but I don't think the vellux is going to look right being the blanket to stick out. Wonder what I could get that was light weight for over that?

Oakley - I know what you mean about hiding the blanket in the back! DH has a fleece blanket he uses in the evenings while lounging. Fleece blanket with three cats and at least one of them sits on his lap. Can you imagine what it looks like!? Doesn't matter how often I wash the thing. I keep saying one of these days it's going to disappear.

If I do use other blankets I need more of them to stay warm. (Then DH crabs - "It's too hot, why do we need all these covers blah, blah." :) )Most of the time it ends up being too heavy. We like the temp in our room pretty chilly (64-68 max). Even if we're someplace else that's warm/hot for bed I'm one of those people that still have to pull covers up around my face to sleep.

I wouldn't have the vellux blanket out to show. We have a matelasse coverlet and currently a folded comforter at the bottom of the bed - that is the made up bed look. We never cover up with our bed covers. We're fairly warm natured and we are in the south so a sheet and cotton blanket is what I keep on the bed, we add a quilt in colder temps and switch to flannel sheets.

Have you looked at Pottery Barn at the pickwick quilt (or maybe it's pickstitch - something like that). It sounds like you are wanting a solid cover on the bed and use your patterned one folded down. Have I got that right? The pottery barn quilt I mentioned is solid - it's a quilted cover in pretty colors. There are also shams. It would look good to use a solid cover (pulled up over your blanket) and then the patterned one at the bottom of the bed. I'd also use the solid shams along with the patterned ones (I use two sets of shams on our bed - one solid - one patterned). I'm just using that pottery barn one as an example, not sure if it comes in a color you can use or not.

This may be a dumb question but are matelasse covers heavy? I was looking at some of those too but I never even heard that name before I came to the forum. I really don't know what I'm doing as far as trying to layer a bed. You can see the bedroom going in and out of the main bathroom so I'd like to get this room looking decent. My goal is to have all the rooms in order so the doors can stay open. lol

Tina - Thanks for the suggestion. Deep down I knew the vellux wasn't probably very desirable all by itself. You're right about the solid cover and patterned folded down. I do like how people combine different fabrics but I don't really know what else would look right with it. Also don't know if that would really be for me, iykwim.

I did a search for the pick stitch and I like how it looks. I'm thinking either the white or sandalwood would be best. I'm leaning towards white but would that end up being too stark? You're saying you'd also get the pick stitck shams?

Do you sleep on those type of pillow cases? They're just for pretty right?

I really need to get this room painted first. Going to get some samples and make this on my near future to do list.

This is a little late, but this blog just addressed your situation and I thought of you. It's a step by step for display in a store, but you could adapt it to fit your comfort.

I also have a matelasse and it is pretty light-weight. I just love them.
