kabergs: I was considering the same treatments for my family room last week and had even taped up some sample panels. While they did look nice, I also found it blocked too much light and the view as well so we opted for valances instead.

In any case, here are a few of the pics that I had downloaded. This first treatment I think would look nice with your windows without blocking so much light.

and the wider windows but you can see there's not a lot of room with that piece of furniture there, which is another reason I was thinking one panel pulled to the side:

Swagging the panel is a must because of interference with the fp. What I don' t like about this one is the topper - this one is sewn on, but I'd prefer no topper at all. I just think it looks better that way, but you can judge for yourself based on the pictures posted here and playing around with your own panels & toppers.

Here's another view - this one clearly shows that my panels are too short to be swagged to the side. I think that might be the case with yours, too, but I can't see all of the bottom in your picture.

Hang your rods high and wide. You can "fake" the appearance of larger windows and not block the light by having the WTs covering more wall and just covering the window trim. IMO you also need more fullness to the panels, the single panel width looks skimpy (I don't know why the silks are so often so very scrawny!); I would double up on the panels even for the pulled-to-one-side look.

BTW, I like Amy's treatments where they don't cover the entire top of the window. Not sure if that works in your situation with a narrower window.

Thanks for hte pictures and info on the curtains. Johnmarie, you are right about the fullness of the drapes. The interlined ones are on sale right now, for the same price as doubling the regular panels. I wonder if that would just make them look fuller and hang better?

I wonder if I should go without the topper (if JCP will allow me to return them 9 mos later....yes, I shopped way before I was ready to paint). I really like the photos I'm seeing of them pulled to one side without a topper.

I don't know much about draperies but I think I recall reading here that the interlining helps them hang better and look fuller. Or should I stick with just doubling the panel width?

I agree with Mari's suggestion to go high and wide. Probably my biggest mistake was getting skimpy hardware. I was trying to be minimalist and it was also my first effort at WTs and I whined here for lots of help at the time. I will say I like the sheerness and the light coming through my linen panels. That is a north western exposure and I need the light and lightness. It is also a casual room, so the relative sheerness is appropriate IMO. Your room feels more formal to me, so lined panels would have a richer look...

Food always get my utmost attention .. yes, definitely lined drapes for your rich room.
