Are focal walls out of style? How would you paint this room?
Comments (10)Great questions. I didn't read it as snarky at all. The reason I want to paint the LR is because I've lived here ten years and we have never painted this room. It's not the same boardwalk color as the lower half of the dining room. It's much lighter, kind of a beige-y, pinky color. It doesn't match the hallway or the dining room. I was hesitant to paint it all boardwalk because my furniture is all brown-ish and I didn't want the living room to feel all brown like a mudhut lol. My sofa is butterscotch, then both chairs are chocolate. The recliner has squares of the moody blue in it. The leaf chair has butterscotch and I guess ivory. The throw pillows on the sofa are ivory, a light blue, butterscotch, and a gold. My original thought was to paint the whole thing moody blue to add so life and interest to the room, but my fear is the color will be overwhelming. My other choice is the boardwalk. It is in the adjoining hall and the dining room, but I was also thinking of painting my new kitchen that color. Is that too much of a good thing??? I had not considered any golden colors. I will pick up some swatches the next time I am a SW or Lowes. Thanks again....See MoreWall decor around tv centered on wall
Comments (1)I'm having the same issue. Right now I put 3 plants on the right in a corner, one on a high plant stand and the other two on a small table. A candle holder is yet to be put up on the other side. The TV is on the wall though, all electronics are in a closet behind. I do have a sofa table under it with pillows on it's shelf. Am consdering a bench for extra seating out of the way, but can be moved. Had wanted bookcases too, but the room has enough furniture and big fireplace. Filling up the bookcases felt like too much for my area. Post pic if you can. You will get a bunch more responses....See MoreNeed help filling empty wall space around TV etc!
Comments (23)Well, I was going to suggest the ubiquitous fiddle leaf fern, but looks like you have a cat, and they are toxic to cats. You might Google plants that are non-toxic to cats and see if anything grabs your interest. I think some palms may be ok with cats (and they can grow fairly large), or you might look for a contemporary plant stand and just sit a smaller plant on it -- maybe a giant tropical bromeliad or something along those lines. That said, if your cat is prone to pester plants, it's probably not a good idea to include one in your décor. (Definitely don't put a fake plant in this pretty space.)...See MoreHow do I style under a wall mounted TV and in deep window sills?
Comments (26)I like the piece of art you have in the dining area of the last photo. I think maybe we should retreat to your original dilemma which was about how to display all your stuff. As before, I still suggest you divvy it up so it isn't all vying for our attention. Do you have storage bins under your bed? That's always a good idea for storing excess. Most of the decor items seem to be white ceramic and a few gold/brass pieces. If you want to utilize the window space, I would limit it to the two upper windows that appear as though they have shelves built in. The twisted gold piece and your other twisted white ceramic piece are both large enough to be seen well from those two locations. Separate hard and soft cover books. If you have enough hard covers to do the job, start with the tallest ones that will fit in the long cabinet openings and supplement with shorter ones. If you can manage to do all hard covers, that is a better choice than soft covers, but you can mix both if you have to. Can you get a 3rd bookshelf for the dining side of the column and style it in a similar fashion to the other ones?...See MoreRelated Professionals
