The Large Wall Clock...An Important Element for Your T.V. Debut
Over the past few years, there seems to have been tremendous interest in the use of really large wall clocks in home decor. I’m not one to watch a lot of t.v., but a few months ago I happened to catch an episode of Oprah. Via satellite feed, she was interviewing a large family as they all gathered on and around the sofa in their living room. I don’t recall the subject matter or theme that day, but what I do remember is that mid-interview, the show took a complete right turn as Oprah changed the subject and began asking questions about the enormous, round clock hanging on the back wall of the family room. I was so surprised at how much national airtime, at a bazillion dollars a minute, she used inquiring and complimenting them on their wonderful huge wall clock. Now, just tell me these babies don’t make a statement!
Clocks can fill sooo many needs when it comes to using them in your décor. Not only are they functional, helping keep the busy and overbooked family of today running on time, but they are a great solution for those large blank walls we so often see in the modern homes of today.
In a room where the walls may be covered with lots of paintings, mirrors, and art...a large wall clock or clock face can really deliver some added interest and style. Some clocks are truly little works of art, or in this case, BIG works of art. Here are 12 great ways to use large, wall clocks in your home décor:

This big clock feels so right in this space. It makes such a great focal point for this room. Do you think it's really, really old or is it just a great reproduction? In any case, I love the contrast of its rustic face with the clean look of this space.
Here's a great example of how a large, wall clock can complete a look. This study/office nook would make the budding entomologist in your family feel especially studious with its school house charm.
I love seeing big clocks used in hallways and pass-through areas of the home. What a great way to keep track of the time on your way by. The horizontal stripes create movement and flow...while the clock with it's tick tock passage of time just further accentuates the energy of this space.
Here's another great place for a nice, big wall clock. You can catch the time on the way out the door and even enjoy the look from both levels of this home.
Notice the placement of the wall clock in this kitchen...slightly off center of the shelving below...love that! Have you noticed how you can get away with hanging clocks up nice and high? That will usually not work well for a painting or art piece that needs a lower position to be enjoyed. So, keep the big wall clocks in mind for those hard to decorate, way-up-high areas.
I'm noticing a trend, here. It seems a lot of clocks end up beside, above or near doorways. What do you think about that? Do clocks make you think about movement or passages?
Wow! This large, round clock positioned against an almost square shaped wall really adds a whole element of design to this space. It reminds me so much of the pen and ink drawings Leonardi da Vinci created of mechanical objects and inventions.
Here's an interesting way to incorporate a wall clock into your decor, without actually hanging it on a wall.
What a fun and clever way to keep abreast of the time. This large wall clock works so beautifully with the elegant, sophisticated look of the room. Notice how the numbers going around the clock, vary in size...really adds a lot of interest and whimsy. Every room needs a touch of whimsy!
Do you share your home with a big, bold, wall clock? If not, you may want to reconsider. You just never know when you might get that big break on national t.v. :)
