wow, two more blooms to share
Comments (23)Jean, I'll be 67 in August, never imagined you were older. I don't know if my back problems are severe, but they are definitely slowing me down, am supposed to go to therapy. I struggled to plant some things in pretty big pots which was all I could manage plus 6 bare root roses, last year 2 cherry trees twice because the first ones died in the freeze. I used to work in computers, but these home computers are a whole 'nuther animal, and I try not to mess with anything I don't absolutely have to or want some new software really badly because too much can go wrong fast no matter what they say. I had a setback with my back just hauling my printer (big) home from the shop and hooking it up again where things are really tight under my table. I don't know about calibrating monitors either because I don't want to. Since I got on the net in 97, I'm on my second one, set them all up myself, wasn't into the hardware end of things, and I've learned to do graphics and can do more than someone who majored in it, but I got burned out on it. Then I took up photography seriously, always had a camera, my father got me a film one with the mysterious numbers. I also set them on auto until I discovered a photography forum. They taught me everything I know to the point I've won money on some of my photos but am too old to go professional (plus couldn't take the stress of it), but there is still much to learn and practice. Now with my revived interest in gardening, I've not been able to get out and take many photos, don't mind really. So don't feel bad. I didn't know squat most of my life about cameras. The best of it is I've been able to help and encourage my gdaughter with hers, and she has a long life ahead of her and is thinking of going professional. For college graduation I bought her a better camera than I have, newer model, and it was bandied about why didn't I take the new one and give her mine. I'm happy with mine, that's why. The only thing better about hers is that it has a huge screen. But it takes 10 mp photos, and I don't want them that big, don't have enough memory right now. So it goes. I don't know about patents on lilies, but that one is so striking you could try to propagate enough to sell them. I read a post on here last year where a girl did that and sold them out of the back of her pickup, people snapped them up like crazy, and she made $800, don't know how many plants. Then she lost the mother plant. I hope she was able to find a suitable replacement. Some plants are so unique you can't really replace them. So many have the same name and don't look the same at all, same with roses. I'd better quit bugging you with my chatter. I only pick a few threads here and there that interest me, can't keep up with too many and don't alway chatter so much....See MoreSome flowers for Father's Day
Comments (16)Rita - I am liking Venus's Fire more with each bloom. I'm hoping the watermark will become more defined with subsequent blooms. Jean - You know how much I love LAST SNOWFLAKE. I'm always happy to see that big, gorgeous bloom again. Natanya - Blueberries and Cream always looks good enough to eat. The bloom isn't as round as some newer eyed and edged cultivars, but the color is always great here. Big Ack, Kay and Nancy - Back Scratcher is a wonderful toothy unusual form. I have some seedlings growing with BS as a parent that I hope will be as vigorous. Crimson Edges is recuperating after I set so many pods on it last summer. It has put up only two scapes out of six fans, and the bud count is low this year, partially due to the dormants planted around it going crazy multiplying and blocking most of its sun. I don't know if it was worth it to do so much seed setting with it. I'm having a hard time keeping its babies alive. They have suffered a double whammy of heat and slug attacks. Comments (14)I appreciate all your comments and thank you so much for taking the time from your Labor Day weekend to let me know you enjoyed my post! hostabuff.....Stargate Portal always looks just as you see in my photo(s) and has never had an ugly bloom here. It doesn't seem possible that it can be so perfect, does it? But in my personal experience, it is the perfect daylily and if pressed to name my favorite of all....well this one is numero uno. (And I have close to 500 daylilies). Not sure how it performs or holds it's color where it is hotter but here it is a healthy plant, many scapes and increases well. I can never stop looking at it and am sad when it has it's last bloom. I agree that Royal Jester is a looker, and it is a really good plant too. Sherry, I will try to remember when posting again to let you and others know which are my favorites! Stay tuned. Jean, I always enjoy your comments. You make posting worthwhile! twixanddud, I actually received Capacity for Wonder as a bonus with an order, knowing nothing about it. At first I was disappointed because I already have plenty of yellows... and then it bloomed. Now I know it's NOT just another yellow. Brad, good choice with Pinhill Claret Symphony. It is hard to get an accurate photo of it's color or to show how sturdy the scapes are. But it is a winner. Mine still has many buds left to go as we turn the calendar to September. Avedon, YES that is your Welcome Mat and I posted it for you mostly. I love it. Of course since it was planted last fall and we have such a short growing season it didn't do much this summer but that is how it is with all fall-planted ones in my zone. I have no doubt next summer I will be posting pics of a big, abundant bloomer. I think it is beautiful. (BTW I responded to you on my other post as well). Nancy, I feel the same way as you do about orange....it's not my favorite color but somehow I have a lot of orange daylilies....and I love them. VT Autumn Fires is so brilliant and well-budded that it is stunning in person especially with the late summer sun shining on it. It really does look like it's on fire! And it just laughs at the cold winters since it's hybridized in Vermont, my next-door neighbor. Maryl, NO that is not the same daylily. The one I grow, VT Autumn Fires is by Chris Darrow of Olallie Daylily Garden in Vermont. (The VT stands for Vermont). I believe it to be unregistered which is why it won't be found on the databases. All of Olallie's cultivars with the VT prefix are his or his father's creations and unregistered. I grow a lot of Olallies and many will be featured in my next post. They do have many that are registered that start with 'Olallie'. They are more on the plain side but I like their late-bloomers because they really & truly are LATE with some VERY-late. I usually go pick them up at the farm so I can wander around looking at them in person but they have a website with photos and do mail-order business. Thanks again for the interest everyone. Comments (18)Memphis was beautiful here last year, so am hoping for a repeat. Jeanne Deaver's Dream was not sweet la la here, as it sort of languished. Took a few beautiful pictures much nicer than reality, but never did much. With climate change, perhaps it would be better. But a few years and they have to prove their stuff. I look forward to seeing Strolling Through the Roses this year....See Morenicole___
