Tub, shower and double vanity in tight space
Comments (14)Hi I finally got my key a couple of days ago. So yes the plan I posted is a mirror image. I forgot that there is a door to the closet. I wonder if I close up the door, and move the door next to the toilet bowl, and remove the door for the toilet bowl, if that will work. But it might be weird to have the entrance to the closet next to the toilet. I got some better measurements. The length of the tub is 62". But there is 2 inches of wall on one side of the tub, which I think is hollow. I don't know why it isn't flush with the wall where the doors to the closet and toilet are. The width of the tub from the wall backing is 41". From that same wall to the side of the vanity is 58". To the side of the cabinet is 59". I am tempted now to put a 59" x 32" tub (or maybe a 60"!?) next to the vanity (along the same wall), and I will have 32" to work with for a wall in shower on the doors side? Or any suggestion would be good. Few days ago, I came up with this: From forums But I think this is going to cost big time, involing moving the toilet, and half of the vanity, redoing the floor, wall, etc. And I don't know if the entrance to the closet would be too small (3 feet). By the way, I don't know how the DWV plumbing is run. Any thing I need to look for?...See MoreSpace too tight for master shower and tub?
Comments (11)Thanks. I revisited today and think a low profile built in tub makes the most sense (especially after I ditched the "future buyers/renters might want" part). My GC believes we can fit a 3' x 4' shower plus a 5-foot tub, so I guess I'll trust him and start choosing tile, faucets, etc.! As for that window in our oversized water closet....it was already installed when I arrived today. We have a full-sized window door at the shower end of the bathroom, so at least that will offer plenty of light on that end. Another photo of this space. Still trying to decide whether to place tub on right or left. If I place it on the left, my ears will have a bit more peace when my husband takes his 4:30 am shower. But if I place the shower on the right, we can do a sloped floor drain and do the open/curbless shower thing (trying to years ahead)....See MoreDumb question: bathtub-only plumbing fixtures
Comments (36)I like the plan very much, looooong clear view front to back from bath through the walk in closet, and a nice long view from the bedroom straight out through the WC area without staring at a toilet. Make sure the landscape architect/designer knows about those vista points from inside to carry through. I also love the idea of an exterior door directly to the garden/courtyard, I wouldn’t worry about that door conflicting with a vanity drawer/door next to it, the exterior door likely won’t be open much IMHO....See MoreHelp: Redesign master bath layout to add tub
Comments (15)Thank you everyone, so helpful to get quick feedback! Nixed the current layout and appreciate the consensus that a separate tub/ shower probably won't work in the current space. I'm almost ready to give up on the tub, trying one more time with your feedback :) Jan - your idea sounds so luxurious, wish I could but we need the office & can't take incorporate the kids bathroom at this time. Jean - I'm intrigued by your layout suggestion, and used it to come up with this one. Could this work? I can re-purpose the existing vanity with this layout, everyone please let me know how/ why this might be a good or bad idea......See MoreMittens Cat
