Input Needed on DD's Bedroom Makeover
Comments (16)Val, I thought you'd like that bedroom. This friend is very talented in doing childrens room. She has a son too. Actually everything I've seen that she's done is magnificent. She really should blog, but she's quite busy redoing an old home they just purchased. Now let me tell you first, that I'm pretty much the last person that would normally tell you to do this as I happen to be a wood lover. Love the grain, the varying wood tones and just hate the thought of painting good wood. Deep breath. When looking at the furniture you have for your daughter I would think very hard about painting this before buying something else to paint. The chest of drawers would be so darling painted aqua with glass knobs and pulls to replace the current hardware. All you'd have to do was sand it or use a liquid sander to dull the finish, prime and paint. The bed could be painted the same way maybe using glass door knobs as finials on the bed posts. You can find them online if you search discount glass doorknobs for a very reasonable price. The desk would be harder to give the look you are going for since it's a bit MCM in styling so I'd replace that, but maybe look for a pretty dressing table like the one my friend used that could serve as a desk with the mirror down and later as a dressing table. And again, the bookcase you have now, more likely a combination of cabinet quality oak plywood and solid oak, with a little added crown molding along with a decorative base would look great painted too. Annaglypta wallpaper for the back of the shelves would add a cute touch too. Talk to hubby, tell him a wood grain nut that was given the salutation of "ack don't paint that!" by friends who know her well, thinks it's not a bad thing to paint these items. If you were going to keep them for use elsewhere in your home it would be a different story, but since you'll be selling them anyway to someone else that might paint them, why go to the trouble of buying something old from someone else just to paint it and then have to turn around and hopefully make what you spent on the old stuff in selling your stuff. I hope that made sense. I should be in bed....See MoreLiving room makeover - before to ??
Comments (10)(lol) I've asked all those questions and a million more! TV, entertainment center, coffee table, window treatment have all been given away, along with the sofa and loveseat. I found this coffee table at Room & Board which I like, but do I want a coffee table or an ottoman that can do double duty? Hmmmmm..... DH and I have been debating putting the new TV over the fireplace vs on a console to the right. I'll be picking up some brown paper today for mock-ups. No definite accent color yet. I want all the bones to be brown/espresso/tan so I can change the accent colors out when I feel like it by changing out throw pillows, throws, mantel decorations etc. If we find some nice artwork, I can pull colors from it. (I love some of the plein air artists from the 20's-40's.) We do have saltillo pavers through most of the house and on the hearth - so the peachy-teracotta color is always around as well. We don't need a window covering for privacy, just sun control - mostly for glare on the TV. We've used a bamboo shade hung from the eaves outside that actually worked really well. My main concern is having clean lines and being unobtrusive. Curtains are probably out due to the light sconces on each side of the window. We are hoping to move in around 3 years, so an eye toward resale is a consideration. I want less, but better scaled and better quality furniture. (I rarely entertain.) Also, this is the first room in a whole-house updating so I need to be smart about the pieces I buy. Sorry about the room pictures, these 60's ranch/tract homes are a pain to photograph with my camera....See Morefurniture makeover before & after pic heavy!! do more with less

Gorgeous gorgeous work! thanks for the inspiration.Sue...See MoreNeed help for my bedroom makeover
Comments (10)Oh that’s too bad…I was hoping the bed and sofa would fit on the same wall so you could watch tv from bed or sofa. If you don’t mind me asking…is this your bedroom in a family home or in a house you share with housemates? I’m a little confused as to why you want to keep the sofa but scrap the tv? The reason I ask is…if you are going to keep all of the furniture pieces, there’s not much else that can be done as far as furniture layout goes…except flip-flopping the furniture to the opposite wall or have the chest/desk trade places. So figure out the furniture layout you like best and we can help with rug size/placement. Do you want to watch tv from bed or sofa? You have a nice option for bedding, but there’s no blue. The color blocking will put a lot of graphic pattern on the bed. Will art be going on the wall? Do you need any other storage…hooks, towel bars, book shelves? Just things to consider to level up your room’s form and function. Keep pulling options together and try to visualize how they will work together in your room....See MoreCDR Design, LLC
