Input Needed on DD's Bedroom Makeover
Comments (16)Val, I thought you'd like that bedroom. This friend is very talented in doing childrens room. She has a son too. Actually everything I've seen that she's done is magnificent. She really should blog, but she's quite busy redoing an old home they just purchased. Now let me tell you first, that I'm pretty much the last person that would normally tell you to do this as I happen to be a wood lover. Love the grain, the varying wood tones and just hate the thought of painting good wood. Deep breath. When looking at the furniture you have for your daughter I would think very hard about painting this before buying something else to paint. The chest of drawers would be so darling painted aqua with glass knobs and pulls to replace the current hardware. All you'd have to do was sand it or use a liquid sander to dull the finish, prime and paint. The bed could be painted the same way maybe using glass door knobs as finials on the bed posts. You can find them online if you search discount glass doorknobs for a very reasonable price. The desk would be harder to give the look you are going for since it's a bit MCM in styling so I'd replace that, but maybe look for a pretty dressing table like the one my friend used that could serve as a desk with the mirror down and later as a dressing table. And again, the bookcase you have now, more likely a combination of cabinet quality oak plywood and solid oak, with a little added crown molding along with a decorative base would look great painted too. Annaglypta wallpaper for the back of the shelves would add a cute touch too. Talk to hubby, tell him a wood grain nut that was given the salutation of "ack don't paint that!" by friends who know her well, thinks it's not a bad thing to paint these items. If you were going to keep them for use elsewhere in your home it would be a different story, but since you'll be selling them anyway to someone else that might paint them, why go to the trouble of buying something old from someone else just to paint it and then have to turn around and hopefully make what you spent on the old stuff in selling your stuff. I hope that made sense. I should be in bed....See MoreHelp with Bedroom Makeover Please
Comments (37)That's okay about the bed! I think it's great to look at higher priced items anyway to get inspiration then find something less pricey in that same style :) I only suggested the stikwood as a way to draw in some interest and texture and visual on that tall wall but it's totally not the only option in doing so. You could possibly do a large print on the wall. That bedding color is really nice and a great accent color! one thing to remember you don't have to rush to but a room together. And have it look like you just went to a catalog and bought everything. Surround yourself with what you really love. And you will be much more pleased with the outcome....See MoreHelp transform my small bedroom into bedroom + office space.
Comments (3)So I just tweeked your current plan a little bit by doing pier style cabinets on either side of the bed. Then you don’t have to have a nightstand. Or you can just do full height wardrobes. You will have to account for the jogs in the wall so that the bed is positioned so that you can get the doors open. Then the desk would be opposite the bed and possibly add a little bookcase. I am showing a queen sized bed....See MoreNeed help with master bedroom makeover
Comments (7)Good afternoon, and I am glad you and your family are well. What a fun challenge! Here's my 2 cents. General--I would stick to your grey, white, and bling color scheme. This is an elegant combination that is timeless. Walls--A nice pale grey but make sure it is not looking blue or purple. I like and have Behr Marquee Silver City. Or you could do an off white with grey tones. Get samples first, paint on canvas, and hang them up so you can see them in daylight and night. Accent Wall--not required. 1-2 pink accent pillows are plenty b/c the art is a strong statement on its own. If you still want more pink: a pale blush wall color behind the bed like Behr Marquee Stolen Kiss. Dresser: I would paint it the same color as walls. This will help with visual clutter. Dresser mirror can be sophisticated (round?) and have bling. Night tables: mirrored with storage, or wood painted the same color as walls. Other: Lamps that are silver, glass, or sparkly. (Make sure there is not too much bling in the room though.) A tropical plant. Curtains to blend with wall, but with the rod higher and wider than the window. New grey bedding that looks like a spa, with white sheets and cases if you like. Definitely see if office can be moved, or at least downsized as a console table and elegant armchair. Hopefully this will get you started on a lasting design. Pros: how did I do? 😁 Keep us posted!...See MoreSusan
