Help with master bath finishes
Comments (17)Yes, they're an ORB. And yes, I was planning on tiling up the wall partway, about a foot but can do wood instead. Since it would be different than the pine window trim, I'd keep the wood lower, maybe more than 3" but we'll see what they have - could rip a board down, then 1 8 ft board would do all around, it would be 5-8". I was hoping to make the bead end up at the tile surface, but can always route a simple ogee or something on the top edge. Tile would have to be installed first so we know how high to make the apron. And if I use the same boards for the table top, I could do a low backsplash on that too, I have an old table I'm using as a TV stand now that has a removable backsplash and sidesplashes, use that as a model (it's just too small to use for 2 sinks). Maybe I can even sneak a drawer in there between the sinks too. You've almost got me convinced, now I have to convince DH. A project like this is going to take me a little longer than just ordering a countertop for the builder vanity, and I've got lots of unfinished projects around (like putting together an unfinished TV stand and finishing it so it coordinates with the dark wood end tables!). If I can find a cheap cultured marble countertop with sinks to fit the old/new vanity, then all I really have to do right away is install the radiant heat and tile the floor so we can set the toilet, tile the tub deck and install the faucet. The apron and the table can wait. DH just wants the master bath functional (it *will* be 5 yrs Labor Day since we moved in!)....See Moremy white marble master bath
Comments (23)I put the Hutton double vanity with carrera from RH in our MBA/dressing room, as part of a minor redo to put our house on the market. I too was worried about quality. We've had it a few months, no issues, looks really nice (I also copied RH for the size and placement and selection of tile backsplash, mirror and sconces). I will say that the drawers feel kind of cheap when you open and close. My suspicion is that it wont last as long high end vanities (but then the stuff that lasts forever just makes you feel bad when you ditch it for being out of date!). The RH Hutton is really well priced and looks great....See MoreClassic Gray looks ivory in master bath, gray in master closet!
Comments (8)Olychick - the painter was DH :) He painted both rooms at the same time and used 1 can for the first coat and 1 can as the second coat, so I know it's the same color. 1929Spanish - I think it is the different light and exposure. The bathroom gets limited southern light from a window in the toilet room and the closet gets more direct northern light. Plus the warm gray paint probably looks more ivory against the cooler gray carrara. I actually love pale gray and creamy ivory together so I'm not really complaining - I'm just really surprised how different the same paint color looks in these side by side rooms. This is the house we are selling. The master was the last project in our 16 year remodeling adventure with this house :) We bought a fixer upper farmhouse in Tennessee so that's next after we sell and move. I do like this bathroom though - wish we had done it sooner. Maybe I'll do the same master bathroom in the Tennessee house!...See MoreNeed help with wood stain choices in master bath...
Comments (2)I can do a dry wall return and plan to have the tile wrap to the window. The window is in its own little cove, so there is also a 6" deep ledge which I'm going to do with the quartzite (like the counters). Forgot to mention that I'm planning to do wood plantation shutters as well rather than blinds or curtains, and am thinking that white shutters on white trim is my only real option here...partly because the door to the bath is indeed framed in oak, and the window is straight ahead of the door so you would definitely see both stains at once if I trimmed the window with the dark cherry stain. The other thing is that the white will keep it bright, as the outside light is limited since faces north and large shade trees just outside....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
