Hi indecisive-girl, (I should have chosen that username) I have white marble in my master bath with a dark stained vanity and tub surround. It takes my breath away, I think it's such a beautiful contrast. I used nickel hardware and faucets. Also, the wall tile is one of those personal preference type things but I'm a huge fan of the chair rail height tile. If you use paint (I'm terrified of wall paper but I really love looking at it), you can always change it to freshen things up over the years. Good luck!!!!

Wow! thanks for the quick reply. This is really helpful. What did you put on your walls? Is the nickel polished? Also did you put framed mirrors or metallic rimmed? I'm sorry if I'm bombarding you with questions but I have so many ideas in my head.

I didn't choose mirrors yet but I'm somewhat positive I'll be going with frameless, tilt mirrors in brushed nickel. On the walls I went with a sage-ish green paint and white beaded board wainscoting. The wainscoting is an effort to "casual" it down or "cottage" it up a bit. I prefer a more casual traditional vice formal. I went with marble hexagon on the floor because I have the marble vanity top and tub deck, I felt like I needed something a little bit busy on the floor. It's still being installed, taking forever...............

Sounds beautiful. You brought up another concern. The contractor seems to think it should only take a week or two to do but I don't think so. How long is your reno going? Did you have to rearrange any plumbing? I like your mirrors. It is an options but I was thinking medicine cabinet for the storage.

Thanks, ours has taken quite a while because it's a new build and we had a bad experience with our tile installer/fabricator. So, he left half the bathroom unfinished and we have a new contractor who will be starting next week to finish up. Unfortunately, our floor has to be ripped out and re-done. It was an awful install, very wavy underfoot. I imagine that with good contractors it could be finished in two weeks. My brother-in-law had his redone, with plumbing rearranged in 3 weeks.
I would have liked medicine cabinets but didn't plan for it ahead of time. I decided not to rock the boat over it considering all the other hiccups we've had. Good luck!

indecisive-girl, we used sheet rock for the walls in the master bath (no tub). We used the marble chair rail at the top of the tile in the shower. (The paint color is much prettier in person.)

We tiled only the wall behind the tub in the guest/kid bath and the rest of the room is all sheet rock.

Wallpaper would bring another element into the room and I didn't want to add another thing to vie for attention. However, I've seen many gorgeous bathrooms with wall paper so it all depends on your taste. :)

Sundownr, those bathrooms are unbelievably beautiful and both very unique!!! I really love dark vanities with white marble tops. I worried about my vanity being too dark in the beginning and almost chickened out, now I wish it were darker, like walnut or espresso. I went with a mahogany type stain color.

Thanks rookie and sundowner for the pics. They are all so beautiful it makes you wish you had a few bathrooms to do (and the pockets to do them). Sundowner I like the free tub in the kids room. I'm looking for something similar. Is it hard to clean around? Do you guys have the jets in your tubs or is it something that no one ever uses after the first month? It adds sufficiently to the price of the tub. Hubbie seems to think he'll use it but after being married 15 years I think I've seen him take a bath twice. I personally don't feel one way or the other but I could use the money on the fixtures otherwise.

indecisive-girl, the tub isn't used much so we don't have water splashed on the floor to clean up. Mainly just dust. It isn't hard to clean around. Good luck!

wolfgang80, I bought that round carrara marble tile from Daltile but I'm pretty sure they don't carry it anymore. On another thread someone found the same tile made by Porcelanosa.

Bill V. nice job. Any regrets after about a year of usage? Do you have a tub or only a shower? I was thinking of having the same mosaic on the floor of the shower so it's skidproof

Indecisive_girl-- I wish that was my bathroom!! It was done for a customer. However, I DID do a statuary white master bath for myself years ago in the late 80's, and I had my house for about 4 years before THAT recession took it from me. But during that time, it held up really well.

Here is a photo of my tile and it's not a great shot. There is a little more color variation than what shows. It's a 12" square (and I think that is 1/4" graph paper it's sitting on) and the photo on the other thread is probably 24" wide by 4 or 5' tall.

I was also wondering about that. Has anyone had any trouble with Restoration Hardware bath fixtures? I really like some but I hope I'm not going to be buying name with no substance.

I put the Hutton double vanity with carrera from RH in our MBA/dressing room, as part of a minor redo to put our house on the market.

I too was worried about quality. We've had it a few months, no issues, looks really nice (I also copied RH for the size and placement and selection of tile backsplash, mirror and sconces). I will say that the drawers feel kind of cheap when you open and close. My suspicion is that it wont last as long high end vanities (but then the stuff that lasts forever just makes you feel bad when you ditch it for being out of date!).

The RH Hutton is really well priced and looks great.

Gorgeous white baths...so classy looking and I especially love the dark woods with the white. Congrats to all the owners...you really do supply incentive!!!
