Great Material: Milky Marble
How to add a little or a lot of beautiful white marble to your kitchen, bath and more
Whether your house is traditional or contemporary, who wouldn't want a gorgeous slab of milky white marble in their kitchen or bathroom? Designers are doing some pretty neat things with this material and finding ways to fit it into any decor in small and large measures.
Let's start with marble as a traditional kitchen countertop. The luxurious white marble with the functional farmhouse sink is a nice high-low combination.
Marble can be used as a countertop and then applied vertically to the walls for a uniform-looking backsplash. Paired with dark stained cabinets and stainless steel appliances, this kitchen is a bachelor's high contrast, modern, masculine dream kitchen.
Marble used as a modern kitchen backsplash gets the royal treatment for an unexpected counter-to-ceiling wall application. The dark gray veining in this calacatta marble adds an abstract artful touch to the minimalist kitchen space.
TGlass mosaic tile back splash and warm wood cabinets allow the high-end marble countertop to feel accessible. Together they create a welcoming kitchen.
A traditional bathroom uses marble sparingly as a tiled floor.
Love of marble is taken to the extreme in this bathroom with herringbone marble tile floors, marble wainscotting, and the entire shower area lined with marble.
The designer used carefully chosen marble tiles placed just so on the floor and walls to create the look of a slab. I always appreciate discovering tricks for obtaining "the look for less," and this is a good one.
A little marble goes a long way when a sculpturally crafted sink is used as the focal point to this small powder room. Very little money can be sent on the other features in the room because all anyone will look at and remember is that beautiful sink.
Marble used in the stairs up to the sunken bath tub is another unusual way to bring the material into daily use and tie it in to the rest of the bathroom finishes.
An uncommon use of marble in a laundry room. This room has a lot of style, but because its essentially a laundry room one need not use big marble floor tiles. Tiny tiles made of marble remnants are a way to bring in this special material into a room where no one would expect to find it.
We automatically associate marble with kitchen or bathrooms, but why not your fireplace cladding for a dramatic effect, too?
