How narrow is too narrow for an upper door?
Comments (54)Speaking of coffee mugs... I often wish I'd seen the little shallow shelves that some people tuck under their uppers for that purpose...Or maybe made room to hang mugs. Just something else to think about and confuse the issue, maybe. ;-) I know that this is a whole 'nother option, and seems to fly in the face of my preference for the double door, but if you want to embrace the open shelves and use them more, which I can see happening because of my own experience, I could seriously consider a 12" door (hinging on the left, knob on the right) and 24" of open shelves from it to corner. (Long sentence) But again, it depends on how much open vs closed storage you want in that corner....See MoreHelp - What to do with the narrow 6' gap in our upper cabinets
Comments (23)All great suggestions. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for the drawings, too, that helps a lot. Still don't know what exactly to do. I am kind of giving up on the idea of a pot rack on the open wall, as it maybe too narrow. I guess I will know better, when things come to place. The bump out is 12" in. The gap is actually 7 3/8" total, I think, so with the cabinetry, the gap will be about 6". I guess, it is hard to know exactly without putting the cabinets up, since our walls may not be all even, so I am holding of until we know better. On the other hand, this may interfere with the installation of the hood cabinet, too, as you have to install these pull outs before they are surrounded by other cabinets and it maybe better to have everything at hand. Trying to decide. Thanks again! Pinar...See MoreHood wider than range - OK with upper cabinets?
Comments (15)Angie, found your comment interesting. I have a bottle green Blue Star 30 RNB. Love the range, but like Tina have often thought may-be I should have gotten black or brown-black rather than green. I do like the green with the wood, and it restates the green used throughout our house, but still I sometimes think I should have gone with something more neutral, and that black or stainless would have been more "authentic" looking as we have a period looking kitchen. Do not want to hijack Tina's thread -- may-be we should do a thread on color range -yes or no?...See MoreUpper cabinets next to hood?
Comments (114)I absolutely love the look of glass shelves in front of the window, and you can build a bracket that the glass slides into so you can remove the shelves when you need to clean the windows to make them more accessible. Also, my husband is toying with the idea of copper pipe run between the upper cabinets on either side of the hood, with hooks to hang utensils from. You could also do this under open shelving or glass shelves to hang coffee cups, utensils, pot holders, etc from, or suspend a spice rack ( I think I've seen a hanging spice rack at Ikea). You'll still get lots of light from the windows and not have to alter them, but it makes that dead space in front of the windows more useful in a kitchen with limited storage. If my kitchen window got as much light as yours seems to, I'd be lining up little pots of fresh herbs on a glass shelf. Not sure what your colors are, but I found really cute copper and teal (my accent colors) owl planters on Amazon that will look amazing with the dark grey cabinets and white quartz countertops I'm planning. Also got some large jewel toned blue glass jars to use for storage on open shelves. And a teal rectangular clay planter to stand rolled up dish towels in on a shelf....See MoreCreative Design Cabinetry
