Comments (13)Some people who care about showing the badge will match a Wolf range with a Wolf hood, a Viking range with a Viking hood. But most people feel performance and budget are more important than a matching badge. I've never seen people claim that Wolf or Viking hoods are better than other hoods in that price range, though they look nice. But then, so do other hoods. BTW, and going a little OT, the Viking ranges you mentioned have a bad reputation on the Appliances Forum. There's a long thread called "Viking - all owners" that goes back several years, with a lot of complaints. I don't have one, though I always liked that Viking is one of the few brands that offer some ranges with open burners (which I'd prefer). If you are in that price category for a range, you may want to investigate other brands. Back to your hood, one of the things I like about that Brillia hood specs is that it has baffle filters. Often the hoods in that price range have mesh filters, which IMHO, are inferior to baffles because they clog quickly. Just one more thing for you to think about!...See MoreHood smaller than range ok?
Comments (20)Talk to companies such as ModernAire. All their hoods are custom-built to order. They can definitely make a wide hood that is narrower front-to-back. I am sure they could also build you a wall-mounted hood that would fit the space that you have. So, you have a lot more options. Having said that, a hood that is deeper front-to-back will work much better. Same as overlap on the sides, you need overlap in the front. Cooking plumes rise in an ever-expanding cone. For a hood to be effective, it needs to contain the entire cone or it needs to have guides on the side that direct the air (i.e. cabinets that come down on the sides). What you can do to fit a larger hood is to raise it higher. We decided to mount our hood just above head height, but to then make it bigger. It works really nicely that way....See MoreUpper cabinet opening side flanking range hood?
Comments (9)damiarain We are leaning toward the raised bar. It gives a sense of definition of the 2 spaces yet gives a sense of openness. We also don't want to see pots and pans and dirty dishes from the eating table. We have not gotten far enough to decide on backsplashes yet. We will be getting cabinets that are 40 high. They are 2" shy of the ceiling, so we will have to add molding to give it the full-height cabinet look. ceiling height is 96" I use the program on my PC because it's much much faster! After that, when things are settled, then I use the Ikea planner, which I am working on right now. It is a super-slow program and impossible for me to zip around to design something from scratch. And the renderings are full of lines with walls in the way, etc. I don't like the program, but it's a good way to get an estimate of costs....See MoreWider range hood or upper cabinets?
Comments (15)There’s only 2 of us so we don’t need a larger range... For what entertaining we do 30” is plenty. With infinite funds maybe we’d do otherwise but this is a build in the Bay Area of Calif so even a reasonable budget doesn’t go far (to put it mildly :->). Guess I should have qualified my statement about having enough storage elsewhere.... I do want some storage by the range for things I need and use for cooking. Not a fan of open shelving, especially by the range and for the type of things I’d want to keep there. Good to know that 15” are not a complete waste... It didn’t seem like they should be but just wanted to hear from other experiences....See Moreoldbat2be
