Rug Shopping Today

Hi all. I posted a request for help several days ago, but didn't get any feedback so I'm posting again with better pics. I brought this sample rug home for the dining room. I'll be buying a 9x12 once I make a decision. The light fixture will be replaced. My style is transitional. Colors in my open concept home are dark and light grays with tan and white and a mix of wood tones. The family room with the silvery charcoal gray sectional is adjoining the dining room. Do you think the style and colors of this rug work or should I keep looking?

Naturally I had to look at the NM Vensea rug that I couldn't afford while looking at yours. :( Horchow is owned by NM and sometimes has different prices but not this time. I always sign up for emails and then they send %off sales. If you really like Oushaks you can google the name and find others not so expensive. Safavieh makes most of them for the big stores. There is one compromise pricewise between hand tufted (which will shed for a while, if new) and hand knotted. Soumak rugs are handmade, reversible rugs that wear like iron. The fabric you chose is lovely, slipcovers are classic, but the rugs look too latest blog/HGTV/trendy and will take everything down to that level. Sisal is a safe choice, but it's just that in this case-- safe. I think you need something genuinely old. It doesn't have to be a $19K rug to do the trick. I am pretty sure you could find something for less than $5K-- probably even closer to $2K. It will take looking, of course-- but CL will be your friend. Now, if the fabric, paint, and slipcovers aren't set in stone, then I would actually re-think them as well. I am a little afraid that the fabric will decorate you into a corner. Comments (3)Gosh, so jealous of you being close enough for a day trip! Love Annies. The Verbascum *should* be easy, Verbascum thapsus is an invasive here (not the phoeniceum, no worries). Just mentioning as Verbascum likes our climate. Nice long taproot, so planting sooner helps it's root grow straight down (although I'd wait if hard frost is a danger for you). I've grown other Sidalacea - collect the seeds when they're formed and sprinkle them about (if you have mulch, under the mulch - we use mulch not just for moisture but to help prevent weed growth). Especially in your zone, if you sprinkle the seeds in fall you should get new plants next spring. They're one thing I don't "start" but just sprinkle seed into garden beds and pots on top of bulbs.Great selections!...See More
