Went shopping today

The warm weather made me do it! Drove to Annie's Annuals and came back with 3 each of: Viola Frizzle Sizzle Blue, Lavatera Trimestis Loveliness, Angalis Monellii Blue Pimpernel, Heliophila Longifolia, Verbascum Phoeniceum, Sidalcea Hendersonii!

Except for the blue pimpernel, all are new to me, so would love to hear any advice from anyone who has grown these!

No advice but I would love to see them once they are settled into the garden. Please share after the weather warms up.

Gosh, so jealous of you being close enough for a day trip! Love Annies. The Verbascum *should* be easy, Verbascum thapsus is an invasive here (not the phoeniceum, no worries). Just mentioning as Verbascum likes our climate. Nice long taproot, so planting sooner helps it's root grow straight down (although I'd wait if hard frost is a danger for you). I've grown other Sidalacea - collect the seeds when they're formed and sprinkle them about (if you have mulch, under the mulch - we use mulch not just for moisture but to help prevent weed growth). Especially in your zone, if you sprinkle the seeds in fall you should get new plants next spring. They're one thing I don't "start" but just sprinkle seed into garden beds and pots on top of bulbs.Great selections!

ROFL Jeanne... 'Op' means 'opportunity'. Aside from Salvation Army (they call them 'the Salvos' here) and St Vincent De Paul (Vinny's), there are places called 'opportunity shops' where monies would go to some kind of charity. May be a British term. I've nipped the pieces. The dish had cracking in the glazing on one side and smashing wouldn't have bode well b/c the glaze would have flecked right off. Even with nipping, there was a alot of glazing flecking. That's something to be watchful of when you buy plates/dishes, even some tiles, to use in mosaicing. The tiles I used for the mosaic in my bathroom also kept flecking so a lot of material was lost and unusable. I sometimes scratch at a piece before I buy it to make sure that won't be too big a problem. And I don't smooth the edges. Once the piece is grouted rough edges aren't a problem. Com'on, you gals... I know you're both itchin' t' get that mosaicin' goin'! Suzie, you've been on such a roll lately I expect a mosaic from you by next week!!! HAHAHA

Thanks everyone. It did make me feel good. Not that I needed the extra clothes but at least something new lifted my spirits. Last week I went to Walmart for groceries and saw the bedspread that DH and I had. I decided to buy one because it is lightweight but warm....got a different color though. Bought matching pillowcases as well. Then I went to Joann Fabrics and bought yarn. I am knitting a new afghan for me bed. Sometimes it just the little things that will perk me up. Oh yay! Thank you! I chose them entirely based on the labels, so I'm so happy to hear your feedback, faerygardener! And emmarene, yes, for sure, on the updates! We do have a cold week coming up, so I might not get them in the ground today, but wait for the lows in the 30s to pass.
