I'm leaning towards #2. Can you take it back if it doesn't work?

#1 appears to have a rust-colored red, which might not go with your sofa.

#3 would be too much red, I think.

Organic...want to make sure you are taking about the second set...right. Yes I can take it back. I have 10 days to live with it and if it does not work out I take it back.

I was leaning towards the first set becaue the second set has some blue in it and I do not have any blue at all in that room and I remember you telling me to stay in the same color family. There is one more I want you to look at but for some reason I cannot save it to photobucket or to my pictures. It on the Nieman Marcus website and its in the red family. The name of the rug is Oushak Rugs and it is absolutely gorgeous. The color is Cranberry and Sage. If you get a chance can you go to the web site (Nieman Marcus.com) and take a look at it. I think even you would agree it's perfect.

I prefer the 2nd one as well. The first one doesn't look quite bold enough IMO.

I looked at the rug. If the red in it is a true cranberry and coordinates well with your sofa color--yes! I think it is perfect! :)

It doesn't say that it is handknotted, but at those prices it might be. Be sure to ask. Are they selling it for one-half the price? If so, that's a great buy!

The only way to "photoshop" the rug into the pic with your sofa is if you have the software to do it. Unfortunately, I don't. :(

Yes, handknotted are the best quality rugs. They are woven by hand and often take a couple of months to make--for the more refined rugs, several months. They vary in quality. It pays to learn as much as you can about handknotted rugs before buying. The handknotted rugs sold by shops like Neiman Marcus, Macy's, etc., are called "contract rugs." That is to say, the store has a relationship with a dealer to contract out the fabrication of a set number of rugs at a set quality, or of varying qualities. The rugs are often made in India or Pakistan--which is a real concern, since many of these rug companies use forced child labor. That's why it's important to buy from a respected rug dealer, who supports and adheres to the anti-child labor work of the RugMark foundation. If the rug does not have a RugMark label, it may very well have been woven by child labor. This would not be true for rugs from Persia (Iran). It is true of rugs from Afghanistan, but the situation is different: the "child labor" is labor performed in the family home, alongside family members, in which the child is learning a trade. By contrast, with true child labor in India and Pakistan, the child is often literally chained to the loom for 10-12 hours/day--very young children, as well. They have either been kidnapped or sold into indentured servitude by their impoverished parents. Hand-tufted rugs can be made with child labor, as well. Hand-tufted is of a lesser quality. To avoid child labor altogether, deal with a respected rug dealer when searching for an oriental rug OR buy a good quality machine-made rug, like a Karastan, in which the child labor issue is, obviously, irrelevant. Never believe a merchant who tells you that a new (Indian or Pakistani) rug is not made with child labor if there is no RugMark label on the rug. Although, of course, labels can be forged. It's an industry rife with labor abuse and deception, so you really do have to be careful. :)

I am not a rug expert. I am merely someone who loves textiles, has done some research, and am sharing the information I have learned over the past several years. My advice is: either buy machine-made, or buy used (from Craigslist, for example), and save your pennies for that handknotted rug you dream about.

Here's a link to one of the most respected rug dealers in the country. Do a search for an 8x10 rug and you will see the wide variety of prices. But you can be assured that the rugs are not made with child labor. Don't forget to check out the Bargain Annex!

Here is a handknotted Indian Oushak currently on sale at Eiland's for $1385.00. You can be assured that it is not made with child labor, even though it is an Indian rug, and that it is of a much better quality than the N-M rug. You can find it by doing a search for rug #27448. You can zoom in and look at the rug very close-up, and you will see how nicely made it is, how well-defined the design is.

P.S. I forgot to tell you: It's perfectly okay to have blue accents in the rug, even if there is no more blue in the room. You can pick up on the blue with a pillow. In fact, you don't want a rug with ONLY green and red, because that is too much of the same thing everywhere. Make sense?

I know you have bought rugs on ebay so was wondering if you could look at this seller and tell me if you think his Karastan rugs are decent or priced right or maybe you have even dealt with this seller before.

ambitious, are your colors truly represented in your sofa pillow? If so, take one along with you when you shop. If not, I'd take a cushion and/or a panel of your drapes. Don't worry about looking stupid.

I'll take a look at the Oushak you mentioned as it is one of my favorite styles.

I like the look of #1 but that is why I'm advising to take samples from your home to reference. Is it rust or red?

This is a link to the Oushak rug. Naturally I had to look at the NM Vensea rug that I couldn't afford while looking at yours. :( Horchow is owned by NM and sometimes has different prices but not this time.

If you really like Oushaks you can google the name and find others not so expensive. Safavieh makes most of them for the big stores.

There is one compromise pricewise between hand tufted (which will shed for a while, if new) and hand knotted. Soumak rugs are handmade, reversible rugs that wear like iron. They usually have a much lower price point than hand knotted.

I love the third set, but agree with organic that it might be too much of the reddish color. However, I would give it a try since it is so beautiful. You never know. My next choice is also the second one, although it doesn't have quite enough of the color for me. It is very pretty though.

The second set is also being sold on Overstock.com I have a picture of it that I printed two days ago. I have it in a different color but it is the same rug. You should try to look it up and compare prices.
