Your home is gorgeous! Your pictures look like a photoshoot for a Cottage Living type mag!

What i find particularly interesting is how MUCH furniture is in the space, and yet it doesn't look the least bit overdone or cluttered. For example, a coffee table and two ottomans in a room? There's no WAY i would have thought that would work, even just visually. But it does, and brilliantly.

I am amazed !! I sent you pics of my dresser...family heirloom and the bed I had made to match it...30 years ago. Also the fireplace in our LR/piano room. Didn't want to hijack this wonderful thread!

Our house was on the cover of East Alabama Living. If you look at their masthead they are still using the picture LOL. I was surprised when someone pointed it out to me as they ran it a few years ago.

I can't get over what a delightful blend of old and new and also how you have so much and as estreya says it is not cluttered at all. You could give classes ! c

Well, we had a terrible drought last year and I lost my hugh boxwoods. And my house looks terribly bare without them. But I will plant some shade loving plants this fall. So don't expect too much, but here goes.

Re. your dresser in the room with the poster bed: I have one could be it's twin ( are the side thingys spooled?) Wonder if you know anything about such a chest? Mine was my parents, but think they bought it at an Antique shop in Va.back in the 60's. Thanks so much for posting all the pretty pics of your wonderful old home, and all you've done for it. We will all gladly take more whenever you'e willin' and able:>)

No, the dresser in the main bedroom is not spooled, but I know what you mean. This is an Empire dresser and is fairly inexpensive. But I am sure it is a hundred years old or so.

Ya'll have really made my day and to think I was thinking of selling this old white elephant. But really happiness comes from within, not from stuff. As I trip over more stuff and practically break my neck. lol

I came back to relish your photographs once more. They really are beautiful. I am sorry the old garden roses did not work out for you. They require care, even though others say they do not. Most require care. We are going into our fourth year of drought and our water bills have impeded anything else and have kept us from traveling and staying away for too long. You probably are aware that we had about 500 roses at one time. Well, we are down to about 300 from RRD and other diseases, most of which were brought in by the drought and Katrina. We got no rain off Katrina but a lot of wind and weather that blew the mites into our area.

This fall we plan to eliminate about 200 roses and get down to a reasonable amount and roses that do not require babysitters, so I will be shovel-pruning a great deal of roses come Autumn.

Congratulations on a home that is charming, unique, interesting, and "real."

It's refreshing to see real homes--the "staged" look, no matter how extravagant or perfect, can be boring.

I am terribly sorry about your roses, what a shame. Patricia are you in the rose business? I bet your roses are just lovely. I hate to think of what you went through when Katrina hit.

I take it you live near the coast. Well, I can't tell you how sorry I am. But look at the people that lost their life's, so sad isn't it?

It has taken me a long time, but I try not to worry too much about things I have no control over. Okay I just started feeling that way, but even so.

You made our day. No, I live in south central Alabama, and even though we got no rain from the tornadoes/hurricanes, we got a lot of wind, you know that wind that is so drying to plants and brings the bugs in and with no rain and no chill to kill them off.

No, we're not in the business, just loved growing and experimenting. I have learned so much and have been able to teach some of that to various gardening groups. I do believe I would have kept the roses and continued on except for the years of drought. When your water bill exceeds your cooling bill in Alabama, it's time to cut back. :)

I must tell you I fell in love with this town too. It is so Mayberry. We have parades, festivals, eye contact and homemade everything. But everything does get boring no matter where you live at some point.

Thank goodness for Birmingham, I live only 25-30 minutes from there.
