organic smallhome thanks for responding. Thank you in regards to the sofa. My budget is $1000.00 or less. I say that because I have been pricing the area rugs and they all seem so expensive. I was looking at 8 x 10 but it seem so large. I was just thinking of maybe putting the front legs of the sofa on the rug only because I do not want to cover up my floors completely.

Any ideas anyone?

I have only the front legs of my chairs/sofa on our LR rug, but our LR and sofa are MUCH smaller than yours. In all likelihood, you will probably need an 8x10.

Would you mind terribly measuring the sofa length?

smallhouse I am not really sure what my style is. I'm a little worried that a rug with lots of print will clask with the drapes or do I need to worry about that. I really like the two you chose except they are a bit to busy for me. I know for sure that I cannot use a solid rug because the sofa is solid. I was looking through some books today and I am going to post what I found and maybe you can tell me my stle...because I don't have a clue :-)

You can have a patterned rug, even if your curtains are striped. You just need to stay in the same color family. For example, look at the rug I've linked. I know it's too expensive, but it's just to give you an idea.

I love that rug but hate the price :-). That's my problem. I always seem to like something that cost to much :-) It is gorgeous. I see what you mean about staying in the same color family. My sofas are both 86 inches long. I'm still trying to find that website I looked at today at work with some gorgeous rugs but a little pricey for me.

It looks like you have rose gold and green in the drapes, but maybe that's what I see on my monitor.

I was thinking more of the pattern, since the artwork you show has a similar swirl to the rug pattern. I always like to pick something that echoes a motif.

You have a large room and lovely wood floors. Do you just want a rug to anchor the two sofas?

suero yes. My plan is to just put the front legs of the sofa on the rug. I do not want to cover up the majority of my floors. I read somewhere that if a large area rug is purchased you need to make sure at least 2 inches are left on all four areas of the room. ( I think it said 2 inches...I could be wrong)

8 x 10. Your thoughts.

You could also do an 8x8, if you wanted to cover less floor, but that shape is harder to find.

A nylon rug, so maybe not all that good quality, but certainly within your budget. The rug is 7'10" x 11'2".

Think of stripes (as in your drapes) the same way you would a neutral of any kind. You are free to add a pattern.

What you should be thinking is more along the lines of what direction you want your room to go. It's pretty transitional now. You have elements of both traditional and contemporary and the kind of rug you choose will further push the style one way or another.

If you want to go more contemporary, look for a rug suitable for that style. I like a lot of the rugs OS picked out and they would be a bit more traditional. #1 would go both ways and is my favorite but that's just because I like that style of rug.

First I would like to thank suero, parma42 and especially organic smallhouse for responding to my questions. I have finally chosen this rug that organic smallhouse suggested. I am going to do a "Try It Out for Thirty Days" to see if I can live with the print. This is the one I chose:
