Hood design dilemma - kitchen designers please help
Comments (13)Holly are you saying i have to replace all of the crown in the kitchen? I am not trying to save anything between the 2 windows where the range area is currently. I am ok with the expense and have already gotten the quotes from the cab company and for the modernaire hood insert. But for the cost I want to be sure want to be sure about not using the vv96 in that area and the staggered cabs. I know what I have is really nice, it is just not what I want....See MoreDishwasher placement dilemma
Comments (29)It will be for daily use. There will likely be 6 people living in the house for at least a few years, and we hand wash as little as possible. So with that in mind, it sounds like the consensus is dishwashers flanking the cleanup sink, even with the one on the right being close to the side counter? Is this going to be annoying? The one left of the cleanup sink is there for sure. For the second one, there's basically three options: 1. Immediately to the right of the sink (pros are proximity to cleanup sink/dish drawer/first DW; cons are that it's close to the corner) 2. Immediately to the left of the cooktop (nobody has mentioned this option yet, any big problems with it?) 3. Where it currently is on the floor plan in the island (pros are proximity to prep sink/dish drawer, cons far from first DW, people report not liking it in the island)...See MoreNeed Help with furniture/TV placement in dining room design
Comments (10)It would help if we had a better idea about the orientation of the rooms -- the space you have available. I agree with those who suggested you consider swapping the functions of the rooms -- make the existing dining room the TV viewing room and move the DR table to another room (LR or FR). Failing that, is it possible to extend the feed from the security cameras to a location where you would actually want to sit and watch TV? Failing that, could you purchase a nice tablet for hubby that he can have with him anywhere in the house, so he would have ready access to view the security feeds? After all, I would think the need to view those feeds is momentary at best -- watch a movie, pause the movie to check cameras for a second, return to movie -- right? He's not going to actually sit there and watch the feeds for any appreciable period of time, I would think (although my father can sit for appreciable periods of time watching the Weather Channel, so what do I know?)....See MoreDesign dilemma: range placement, kitchen refresh?
Comments (25)If it were my kitchen: 1. Remove cabinets & moulding to right of window 2. Add them under cabinets near entry on left for storage, make a drawer underneath. 3. Fill desk with wine fridge, extend counter to make landing space for double ovens. 4. Eliminate seating, replace island counter top with narrower counter in a nicer material. Paint the island some color you like. Don't bother with changing the shape & patching the nice floor. 5. Replace cooktop, add modern telescoping down draft to back of cooktop (I know, I know, but it'll prevent some grease splatters from landing on the floor). 6. Add mini fridge or fridge drawers in the island angle. Convenient location for a mini fridge. 7. Expand That Window! Especially if there's a view of the lake! I could live with a less than ideal layout for all the light & view from a large window. I like your cabinets too -- they have a quaint charm. Plus they look to be of good quality, and quality doesn't go out of style. I really like the look of stainless with golden oak. If you could splurge for a new stainless double oven, wine fridge, & mini fridge or fridge drawers, those things and the big window could refresh your kitchen very well. Please excuse my awful photoshopping skills. But this will give you a rough idea: Oh. Just saw the other set of pictures. So no view of lake, but you'd still have lots of light and a view of your lovely yard....See Moredecoenthusiaste
