Aspidistra (cast iron plant) question.
Comments (2)Despite what you've written, I suspect it may be a light issue. Aspidistras do better in low light than most other plants, but there are limits. If the light is too low, it may maintain itself for quite some time, but it won't grow. This is after all, a plant used in outdoor landscapes, where shade is equivalent to a sunny spot in our homes. In the area where you keep your plant, can you read a newspaper (or other smallish print) without turning on a light for most of the day? If the area is too dim to read in, it is probably too dim for your plant to put out new growth. Move it to a somewhat brighter spot, without direct sun....See MoreChelated Iron question
Comments (10)Iron is only a micronutrient and the average garden soil contains about 3 pounds of the stuff per cubic foot. The problem is that plants only take up iron compounds which are water soluble and only in the less stable ferrous, rather than ferric, form. All sorts of soil conditions can convert ferrous iron into less soluble and therefore less plant-available iron compounds. Iron chelates are compounds of ferrous iron which are water soluble and resist conversion to less soluble compounds. Any compound which is water soluble cannot persist in the soil - water will wash it out. If the soil conditions which lead to iron deficiency persist throuhout the year, probably the longest lasting approach is to try lowering the soil pH with sulfur. If you choose to use an iron chelate, you might have to apply it every two weeks or so, just as you would a water-soluble source of nitrogen such as MiracleGro....See MoreIroning question!
Comments (37)I buy sheets with a very high thread count, but still iron pillowcases, and sometimes that band at the top of the flat sheet. For the guest bed, I usually iron the entire top sheet, but not the fitted. I hadn't thought of sending them to the cleaners, I may look into that....See Morehave water report- iron questions...
Comments (2)Hardness 92 what? Grains? PPM? Ph 7.5 Iron .38 What? PPM? Are you on a water system or a well? Treating the hardness and iron in general... if the 92 is 92ppm then that is about 5.5 grains per gallon which is considered hard water. The iron is low but it is there. Depending on how many people are (or you plan to have) in your home and the SFR of your plumbing it looks like you can get an industry standard softener for about $500 if you are a DIYer and want to tackle the job yourself. If not the softener will cost more and the installation will cost also. Is your home plumbed for a softener? With a softener you won't be needing the rust removal cleaning products so you save money there. You'll be using less soap, detergent, shampoo, and other cleaning products so you save money there. There will be less wear and tear on your clothes and all your plumbing fixtures and water heater so you save big money there. Quality softeners pay for themselves in the long run but unfortunately you have to pay up front....See MoreJasdip
