Baking bread with Madison

While The Princess was getting her nails done and preparing for her night out, Madison came to keep me company and help bake bread. At least someone wants to play in the kitchen, sheesh. We made one round loaf and 6 small "bun" sized breads. We baked the round loaf on my cast iron griddle, heated in the oven, so we'd get nice crusty bread.

Madison carefully shaped the loaf, then did it again. And again. It had to be perfect to Papa Elery you know...

This was really a work of love, because she likes soft, white, yeasty bread, not the crunchy crusty type that the "grownups" like. She says helping me in the kitchen makes her feel like this:

And even though she likes soft dinner rolls, that didn't stop her from sampling one of the small rolls, hot with butter and peanut butter. It passed muster, I guess, because she ate it all.

Love my Stab. 5or6 years ago I purchased one treat every year. So I have I think five now. That was when, it seemed, everything started breaking down. A lifetime veg peeler snapped in my hand, a favorite chefs knife handle cracked. A couple handles fell off a couple measuring cups. A gorgeous wooden spoon broke in half. Lids to my glass pyrex cracked... Then Zwilling started having great cyber Monday deals. My first was I think my small grain pot. These two live 24/7 on the back right burner. Use them daily/weekly. The 4qrt like on sale now is handy just under the stovetop in the cabinet. The baby, 'my sweet baby' grain pot I've given as gifts since it is usually around 79$ every year during the holidays.

Best single wall oven brand / model for baking bread and rolls

Please note that a CSO is not the same as an oven with steam assist. How want a real combination steam oven. Awesome tool. I love ours. Miele makes a really amazing CSO. If you have the option, get the plumbed model. You'll be more likely to use steam regularly, and it can make a big difference for a lot of dishes. There is a bit of an initial learning curve to figure out all the optimal settings though. So, be willing to experiment

Seeing those little hands that so lovingly crafted bread for her Papa Elery shaped into a heart for you, made me smile for the longest time, Annie : ) She's such a sweetheart : )

sleevendog, my Grandma taught me to bake bread, she said the more I handled it, the better it would be. So, if Madison has to shape and reshape the dough to make it just right for Papa, then it's just better, right?

Carol, I did not pick out the shirt, but I wish I had. The rest of it you can't see. It says "Don't Grow Up, It's a Trick", LOL

2many, she is a sweetheart, and adores Papa Elery, who will take her riding in the Mule and help her catch fish. With me she bakes and I never tell her not to spill the sprinkles or that the bread is "good enough", and so I get even more time with her!

You are so blessed, Annie! You will continue to have many more years of fun in the kitchen with the grands. Madison shows the same dedication to her work as the Monkey Princess did. Priceless!
