Help choosing Miele ovens
Comments (14)I promise I won't dehydrate the boys, but I may make some fruit snacks for them. Yeah, I need the big oven for the big bird in the big copper roasting pan. I have a large family and have seen a large prime rib, a big ham and a 28 lb bird all completely consumed Xmas eve. Don't worry, I have a BBQ the size of a car. But I'm definitely going to get the CSO. We use a toaster/convection oven constantly (countertop variety) and I'm pretty sure the CSO will replace that completely. And then I can give the toaster oven to my husband who reheats pizza without a pan and gets it all gross. I have a 27" double oven (Frigidaire Pro) and coming from my old Bosch, this is a huge step down. It's too small for the big bird and no fancy roll out rack and no proofing. And I had the low end 30" slide in Bosch - not their fancier products. I think I'll get the 30" and the CSO. And it looks like the plumbed XL model is the one.......See MoreCombi-Steam Ovens
Comments (23)Okay, I've done some research, thinking I'd find something different from the last time I tried it. Same deal. Put rice and water in tray, put in steam oven until cooked through. I even found a chart for different kinds of rice, whereas I've just estimated before, which works fine. I'm still not tempted to do it again. It's SO easy to cook rice on the stove. With induction, you can even set a program to do it automatically, but I don't bother because it's so easy. So I think we just have a difference of opinion on whether rice is easier in the steam oven or on the stove. Totally legit, that. I'd just thought you must be doing something different to make the oven easier, rather than it just being a different folks thing. ;) (I don't count the MasterChef settings since setting the oven isn't a bother.)...See MoreMiele CSO to stack with 24" Miele speed oven or 30" single oven?
Comments (70)You can never have enough ovens. We have a 30" oven in addition to a 24" CSO and a 24" SpeedOven (incidentally, this is a wonderful combination). And still, there has been at least one meal, when I had to add a fourth improvised oven by using the gas grill on the deck. I also had to use a portable warming chest, and had to prepare a careful schedule for when to use which appliance. But then, I was cooking multiple courses for a gathering of more than 100 guests. Realistically though, 99% of the time, the combination of those two ovens should be enough. You might just have to do a little bit of planning on the rare occasions that you make huge amounts of food. But if budget is flexible, adding the SpeedOven wouldn't hurt. It's a good oven in its own right, and it can always serve as a great overflow option, when things get really tight. Is it mandatory? No, not at all? Will you enjoy having bought it? Yes, probably. It's a convenient luxury, if you regularly cook a lot....See MoreCan I bake in a CSO (use as 2nd oven)?
Comments (4)We have a 30" all-gas Bluestar range. It's an amazing range, and comes with an awesome (and huge!) oven. The downside is that the oven takes a long time to preheat. That's generally an issue with larger oven cavities. But when it is preheated, it is super reliable and regulates temperature very precisely. In looking for gas ranges, please do take a close look at Bluestar's open-burner product line. I suggest the RNB series. It has a cult following here on Houzz -- and for a good reason. We also have a 24" Miele CSO and a Miele SpeedOven. For the vast majority of oven needs, I fall back on the CSO. The fact that it is plumbed means that there is no barrier to using steam even for quick one-off uses. And other than the addition of precise control for both steam and temperature (makes a great sous-vide cooker!), it is a full oven in its own right. It's really nice to have two additional ovens besides the one in the range; and I do use all of them for larger meals. But if I only need a single oven for a given meal, I use the CSO. I agree with you that a SpeedOven is of more limited use. We bought the SpeedOven, because we couldn't quite get rid of the microwave. And I didn't want to dedicate so much space to a single-purpose appliance. Sacrificing the space became more palatable, when the microwave can do double-duty as a third oven. In hindsight, I am quite happy with my decision; but the extra cost might not be acceptable to many home owners....See MoreRelated Professionals
