Overdrive app - which devices are most compatible?

Recently, we were discussing the benefits of books vs e-readers. I am a book person. However, when on the treadmill, I do like an ebook. I have a first generation Kindle Fire. But Amazon does not offer the overdrive library app on any of their devices. In speaking with Amazon customer service today, the company has no plans to support the app in the forseeable future. So, my question is, if you read ebooks from your library, what device do you use? I was all set to buy a new Kindle. Now, I am rethinking that decision.

I use the Overdrive app on a rather old Kindle Fire (a hand-me-down) to download books from my library. I'm guessing it's a second generation Kindle Fire because the name on it is "Tony's Second Kindle." The library tech people installed the app for me and showed me how to download books with it.

PAM, I am so not on trend that I have no idea about what you write!

I am familiar with the word TREADMILL and recognise it as a form of punishment used in prisons up to a couple of hundred years ago. I prefer to read in quiet and comfort without feeling the sting of the (figurative) lash coming down on my back.

For a non-Alzheimer's person, my mom, we have GreatCall. It has an option and an app where you can track a person anywhere on your phone. It's a one button system, like a cell phone or med alert system, to a dispatch center, but is active anywhere they wander. You can also have it detect falls. The biggest complaints are size and battery life. If charging is going to be an issue, it may not be an answer.

Thank you all! Your responses made my decision easy. I just purchased the Roku from BB. The sales person failed to mention the HDMI cable was not included, so I cannot yet report on the ease of set-up. I had no idea BluRay doubled as a media streaming device. I'll keep that in mind if we use this enough to get another television, or upgrade the current TV. We only have one small television in the house, so I appreciate everyone's expert advice!

Pagination is on the bottom of the list when using a desktop/laptop. There are 30 threads per page. Page 1 displays the most recent 30 threads that meet your criteria -- whether via a search or using the filters/tabs (Latest, Featured, Popular, Unanswered -- default is Latest) You can scroll through the thread list using the page #s, the "Next Page" button, or the left-pointing arrows ("<<" and "<"). You didn't state which range you bought so I looked at the owners manual for the Jenn-Air JGRP436HL which, like yours has no display. First, the range requires an app either downloaded from Google Play (for an Android phone) or the Apple Store (for an iPhone). You cannot either Amazon device you mention because neither supports these apps. Second, when enabled, the app takes control of the oven. You must use the app to control the oven -- even the temperature -- as the knobs on the range are disabled. I'd suggest you check the range's owners manual to see how it operates before you buy it. You might post the brand and model here if you want additional help on houzz. (I looked are Amazon reviews of mechanical timers. I never would have imagined that there would be so many bad reviews of timers such as Sunbeam and Lux. If my old Presto timer ever goes, I guess I'll buy its replacement on ebay).

I use Overdrive on my iPad and my Android phone, and it works great on both! It syncs your devices, so when I open a book on my phone it picks up where I left off on my iPad, and vice versa. I love it!

Vee, I greatly admire your resistance to both forms of punishment known as "treadmill" and "overdrive app". I tend to use them for an indoor combination of both walking and reading simultaneously which invariably leads to me becoming so engrossed with the latter, that I fall off of the back of the former. This leads to further embarrassment as while I am checked and fussed over by gym attendants, I am much more concerned with losing my place in the book. And while I confess that a comfortable spot full of natural light and pillows is much preferred, my insatiable appetite for chocolate ice cream demands that I make use of this medieval form of torture known, to some very few affectionately, as exercise.

I borrow books from my library using overdrive. I am usually on my laptop when I borrow it, but I read them just like a regular book on my (now considered ancient) kindle voyager. When I borrow a book using overdrive there is a choice of two buttons, and one sends you to amazon where you can download it to the cloud just like a book you bought. Then you can open it up on your kindle or any device that has the regular kindle app.

Thank you PAM. As you can tell I am a Luddite and luckily I don't have a very sweet tooth plus I am 'of an age' when the word gym referred to a large room full of wall-bars, ropes, bucks, boxes which we were encouraged/forced to climb, leap over etc. Now that really was torture.

Unlike, as in your case, no one fussed over us when we fell off/over or filled in an 'accident report'. If only they had said "Go and sit quietly in the corner with a good book." all would have been well.
