Well, I think the general concensus here is: We'll never know the true facts. In my opinion, there is just WAY too many conflicting "facts" about lighting for plants. Plants aren't even meant to grow under lights, they belong in the sun. With that said, do all you can to grow in the sun, and if you use lights, expect them to NOT grow 100% like they would in sun. Talk to different people who use different methods to grow plants with artificial lighting. By reading that top ten myths post, I feel like I am less educated on this topic now. That thread as a big arguement, with cheap shots left and right, so I won't even attempt to reply to that one, lol. How qualified was the original poster to insist those are all myths? How qualified are the repliers who defend them? The main thing to consider is that someone out there has success with every option available, so pick what you like, and give it a whirl. I ditched my fluoros mainly because metal halide is more user friendly, meaning its MUCH easier to go admire my plants, and water them, without having a rack of fluorescent lamps a few inches above them. I use artificial lights to simply "get by" until I can move my plants outdoors. I don't expect massive growth, I just want them to survive, although I do seem to get a good response from a 400w metal halide. It works for me, but maybe not for the next guy. I used it cuz I got it free, and how can you beat that!?! Oh, side note: If you want REAL good info about growing lights, and what seems to work, read some stuff on the marijuana sites. What other type of plant HAS to be hidden and grown with lights?? These people, although criminals and dope heads, have been doing it for ages, and seem to be a step ahead of people like us, who grow vegitables and stuff.

azinoh- I just want to be a little more 'current'! I feel like a dinosauer with my small paperback book when I know there are newer things out there. No, I wouldn't be any any trouble if pictures didn't show- I really just want medication info and lab values. The doc's use smart phones. I know several years ago the info was on a PDA, but I haven't worked for a few years and want to know what is the current way to access this info. I really don't want to use a phone, because when you work in a hospital everything you use is 'dirty'. I would rather have a seperate, small hand held device that I can download (upload?) info onto. Besides- if I accicidentally leave it in a room or somewhere I won't be leaving my phone at the same time, if that makes sense.

I have an old Magellan (probably 10 years old) and have no reason to get a new one although I have thought about it. I asked a few trucker friends about the advantages of one the truckers use. I was surprised that they're only about $350-$400 and have more features that many wouldn't use, like routing according to vehicle height, but that could be advantageous to people with RVs. Yes, you'll occasionally get taken a, shall we say "non best" route but I don't find many problems. Trying to find a house in a new development can be problematic in this case but frankly I've had very few issues with this. For this reason I find the map updates and especially "free" map updates to be a great sales gimmick, but in reality, of very little value. What people don't seem to understand is first, there's not that many changes. Second and more importantly "lifetime" map updates are not YOUR lifetime, it's the lifetime of the UNIT! LOL So what this means is if you buy a unit today with "lifetime updates" (whether free or not), and they discontinue that model tomorrow, there go your "lifetime" updates! But a lot of people get sucked in by sales pitches. To me a GPS unit is good for about 3 years and then if you're a serious traveler who goes to a lot of various places, including new developments you should probably get a new one. Consumer units are relatively cheap and upgrading gives you newer features. For the average person, most any unit will serve you just fine for a long, long time. I find the navigation programs on smartphones to be laughable. I live in an established neighborhood. My house has been here for 40 years and from most anywhere within 30 miles or more it's usually no more than a few turns to get here yet 4 out of 5 people using smartphone apps will get lost. I can count on it. And of course they won't listen to me when I tell them to follow my simple directions ("DUH, I have GPS!!"). No it's not "GPS" it's it's a map app but I digress. Sometimes they are sent to the opposite side of town. I can usually count on people being late when they rely on their phone apps. Unless they're close friends, people who are coming for non-important reasons are told that I don't give the address anymore because people get lost and don't show up so if they want an address I'll give them a non-existent one that will get them to the corner and they contact me when they get there and I guide them the rest of the way. I won't wait for them. If it's late, I go to bed or if something else is going on, I leave to take care of errands or business. When they rely on something that takes too long, they're SOL. Again I digress! My last comment, other than getting a unit like many/most truckers use, I wouldn't spend too much on a GPS. I do like a larger screen, I think that's helpful. Keep in mind that GPS units are not much different than texting while driving. Your eyes are off the road, punching in info while driving is no different than texting and just as dangerous but you don't hear about it very much. That's a big frustration for me.
