I’m repainting - What should I do with my fireplace?
Comments (16)Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments about the fireplace - maybe it's not so bad after all! Ha! Rugknots - you're probably right that I've gotten so used to it that I'm just thinking it looks dated. But we'll see what it looks like after the repainting. You've all got me thinking now about moving forward with getting rid of the entertainment center before I was really planning to! Perhaps I should really move THAT to Phase 1 and move the new furniture to Phase 2! Hmmm! tylerandabby - I never THOUGHT about taking off the side pieces! I know they are screwed into the main center piece (because I remember the RACKET the screwdriver made when the installer screwed them together!) But the top piece is connected to the bottom piece so I'm not sure I can take it apart. Something to investigate though. Thanks for the idea!...See MoreWhat should i do in this alcove above fireplace?
Comments (8)HA, the dreaded alcove. Well, yours isn't as bad as most. Usually I recommend drywall over the niche. Take the 3 jars and move them in away from the alcove border so they're almost touching the painting. You should go ahead and get a floating frame for the painting. It will look more finished. Try a black frame. Right now the painting disappears into the background. A frame is what you need. Then you hang the painting about 4 inches from the mantel. This is a black floating frame. Very simple and modern. ....See MoreWhat should I do with my fireplace?
Comments (50)We built a Rumford fp, and because DH just loved it I got him a picture of the Count and hung it near his chair. It really does put out great heat. Sue, you are not allowed to paint the mantel or any of the wood. Do you understand? People are going to do a doubletake when they see the men in your firebox. Books in a fp seems like a huge fire hazard or a gathering place for bad spiders....See MoreWhat should I do with these asymmetrical built ins?
Comments (4)First order of business is to discover your style. In top search box put in (one at a time) different styles. Examples include: transitional, casual, traditional, farmhouse, eclectic, boho, old world. Note what you like and don't like. I wouldn't do anything just because it's in style. Interior design (like art) is highly personal. Before you do anything, develop an overall plan. Doing things in bits and pieces will not contribute to a unified and cohesive look....See Morejustlol
