I have had pretty excellent ~customer service~ from Miele in this regard. From a plastic piece on our laundry washer they they serviced 2 years prior but ~I~ discovered the tech that put it back together broke 24 months laster. Or for our new DW that came with some issues.

When you spoke to CS, what did they say. I think it may take some approval time from higher parties for them to replace it.

With that said, I would NOT own a Miele without have any level of extended warranty on it

I have seen many times in different circumstances that Miele’s premium products are surprisingly not supported by a premium U.S. based organization.

The products they make are superior in some respects, but the alterations they make to those products for the U S. all too often make them worse, not better.

Their products are supposed to be “built like a tank“ (and priced like defense department equipment too), but I have had two W4840 machines die a premature death.

As It turns out, you were wise to get the extended warranty. Hopefully you will get your replacement soon. It sounds very frustrating after paying for a premium priced product and a premium priced warranty, you are still waiting.

Are they replacing your washer with another W3048 discontinued model, or are they giving you a W1? I know when I was ready to schedule delivery of my W1 it did take them a few weeks before they could do it, so I'm wondering if you are running into something similar.

I have been promised the current WWH860 model which is equivalently priced around 2k mark, just like the W3038. Not sure what the W1 is??? The other unknown I have, how to cover this replacement.

The Miele WWH860 is the W1. There are 3 W1 models priced at $2000, $1800, and $1500. I believe the WWH860 is the top one at $2000.

Jllg. Was it the drum that is ~bent~ per your post or was it a bad bearing on root cause. Just curious.

I am pretty sure the drum is not bent but the spider arms. It still spins freely except for the rubbing on the door seal. It probably has almost half inch of run out. I should take a video of a spin cycle and post to you tube.

I am getting a bit or traction today from Miele but still no ETA. I hate to say it, but its probably another 2 weeks until I am up and running. It has to ship to an installer, then the installer has to come (probably with 2 people) to move upstairs. I will be honest, I have thought about selling it new when receiving but going to buy something completely different/brand. Going this long is....

These installers can be a roadblock in and of themselves. But Miele has a list of authorized installers and I would think they could find one to do it faster. Independent installers (still Miele authorized but not associated with an appliance dealer) seem to have shorter lead times.

fwiw, the shock on our Miele washer went bad. I was hemming and hawing myself on repair vs replace. The shock from Miele was expensive for what it was.I looked at just getting a new machine but the build quality was no where close. I ended up buying the shock, doing a teardown and repaired it myself. Glad this is under warranty but just don't be sticker shocked or surprised on what parts may costs afterwards.

It's like our german cars. Great to own one during warranty. Just don't own one outside of it.

I cannot recall where I read this. We have a total of 4 Miele Vacs. Love every one of them. I recall a post that says the Miele vac overseas are NOTHING like the ones we have stateside. Is it due to 220. I dunno ?

A1an- Although I have Miele vacuums, I must admit I don’t know too much about them or how they differ from Miele vacuums sold in other countries.

I was really referring to Miele washing machines sold in this country. I have often wondered, as you seem to be suggesting, how many of the changes Miele made to their U.S. washers are a direct result of changing power requirements across countries. The Miele 220v washers I have purchased ( 1100 series and Little Giant) seem more robust and have more sensible programming than the 4840 and W1 washers I own, both of which run on 110V.

The latest W1 has been a disappointment from the perspective of programming that was probably unintentionally crippled when they modified the machine for the US. One can’t select more than one option in a cycle (e. g. Can’t add both a prewash and an extra rinse). Since the manual says you can, I think it is a software bug that Miele USA either can’t or won’t fix.

But I suspect there are other intentional alterations that Miele made to their US appliances based upon some belief that consumers here are not educated enough to handle tough laundry decision making (whatever that is). Why doesn't Miele support empty Twindos containers that consumers can fill with the laundry products of our own choosing? Miele sells such containers in Europe and the W1 can be told what is in the container. Not so in the United States.

The Mieles are still good products, but IMO they have struck out when they tried to make a machine they thought would appeal to US consumers (the 4840). I wonder about the 3038 too. The OP says his lasted 3 years before a life ending failure. It’s another 110v machine.

And when Miele USA has no process by which to address software glitches that impair the functioning of their machines (the W1), that also seems problematic and not consistent with their “Immer besser” motto and supposed philosophy.

I have not followed the W1 thread at all but has anyone gone to the trouble of importing a empty TD container from overseas. And or they have but find out it's keyed differently and just won't fit ?

Couple years back I imported a ~double blade~ for our food processor, as in my mind, it would be more consistent with chopping. Indeed, it is great for light stuff like herbs, tomatoes and such for sauces. But anything like even a smigen of meat, the shaft would not turn. I suppose there was a rhyme/reason why certain things available for the 220 variant are not offered here.

Re: programming functions and what not. Believe me, I've seen it 1st hand when I was dealing with network support when Mieles app 1st came out and we tried getting it to work with our dishwasher. It's as if Miele USA needs to wait to have the request typed nack out by a German translator back to a developer overseas.

I'm looking to buy a 24 inch stacked compact washer and Miele keeps coming up. In addition I am looking at kitchen appliances and one option is to go with a few Miele products. Reading the comments on this thread really scares me off. They are so expensive to start off with and then having to pay so much for service and parts and then wait so long for service isn't an attractive proposition. Plus I live in a an area ( Lower Slower is part of the unofficial state name ) where I will really have to find out what their service is like.

Maybe I should start another thread....but CJ, I think/feel Miele is going to exit the 220 market entirely indefinately. I dunno how much it cost to get UL certification on their 220 variants to be sold in the USA - edit, I just looked. Looks like the entire LG lineup is gone and a new pro series has been released, in 220 variants.

A1an- the empty Twindos containers purchased from overseas are not compatible with our W1. The shape is a little different. Some people have been able to reuse the miele detergent filled twindos containers when they are empty by carefully refilling with a funnel, but unlike the overseas W1s, we can’t tell our machines what is in the container. In other words, we cannot refill with, say, fabric softener and expect the machine to dispense it correctly, whereas you can do that with an overseas machine.

Re: new Little Giants. That’s certainly big news. I don’t think the Miele USA site shows them yet (only shows PW 6068 Plus in white and stainless steel).

jllg73 - I hope everything gets sorted out for you soon! What a pain. I'm disappointed in Miele's customer service to the point I likely (never say never) will not buy another when this washer goes. I had the elec. board replaced this last year. Out of warranty. One day, the technician from local dealer where I bought it spent 1 1/2 hours on hold(!!!) trying to get thru to Miele, while at our house. Grrrr......

You may have a point. Like the original Xerox machines where the user was compelled to buy paper from Xerox.

A quick link. The newest one still has a compartment for liquid/powder aftermarket tabs. Maybe in the 2020 or 2021, that get's phased out. Just guestimating here
