Appliance choices, any comments? trying to stop waffling :)
Comments (1)no negative experiences to share just yet (we've only been using our appliances for 2 weeks - so take with a grain of salt!). wolf cooktop: love it, really easy to clean and awesome low simmer control - fabulous subzero: we have the 700tc (27") and it has a surprising amount of space. KA: we have their 'beverage center' with 3 zones. chose this one because of the location of the wine pull-outs not interferring with beer bottles like on the u-line. I'm still playing with the temperature control, but really seems to work fine. Seems to make more of a 'hum' than the SZ freezer in close proximity. not a loud hum, just a comparison for when the house is silent!...See MoreDirty waffle iron, toss or save?
Comments (28)The tator tots in the waffle iron is one of the life hacks you see on facebook. The idea was to make a "waffle/roll" for a hamburger out of tator tots. Looked better online than IRL. They do taste really good in the waffle iron but don't hold together. The grid gets greasy and gets tiny bits of food in it that seem impossible to clean. I keep chopsticks around just for cleaning jobs like this but it wasn't working. I really think the tator tots did it in with way too much grease. DD keeps making them for lunch in the iron instead of using the oven. Right now some life stuff came up but hopefully by next week I can start searching for a new waffle iron. Maybe keep the old one if the kids want to do the tots in it but then they have to clean it. Thank you for the recommendations and the link posted above. I will check it out....See Morewaffle maker cooking??
Comments (19)I wonder if parchment paper would work? But at the point that you're making it that way, given an actual kitchen, is it worth being able to say you're making the waffle maker do more stuff? I don't get an electric cake pop maker, other than for small children to bake in away from dinner being made, when one could as easily use a cake pop mold in the oven. Given that an electric waffle maker is so much easier to use than a stovetop waffle iron, and that it doesn't take up too much more room, does it really need multiple functions? If you don't have another contact grill or grill press, perhaps it's a good substitute, like for the grilled cheese sandwich or panini. People over stress the whole "nothing that has only one purpose" idea. Yes, you can use a fork or spoon to juice an orange, but a good reamer really does work better. You can't make waffles without some kind of waffle iron/maker, so why not just let it be a waffle maker?...See Morewaffle iron cooking?
Comments (17)No real recipe for potato pancakes... just sorta winged it? Raw, shredded potatoes and onions, Can't remember but if I rinsed potatoes, probably squeezed them as dry as possible. Some flour... maybe 1/2 cup or so. An egg, maybe 2. All mixed up and then "enough" milk to make a really thick batter... more potatoes/onions than anything else. Let waffle iron get nice any hot... mine has a red light that turns to green when ready. For regular waffles, when steam escaping around sides stops, usually done. When first checked, was "done" sorts... not sticking to grids but not very brown, so just gave it more time. Might try again without flour/eggs and a little oil... more like hash browns?...See Moremamapinky0
