This is totally separate from your post but maybe this is a good place to get feedback :-) While I am a huge fan of British TV and subscribe to both Acorn and Britbox (and watch PBS as well), I have never watched any of the Dr. Who series as I am not a big fan of sci-fi fantasy type programming. But it seems to have such a huge cult following!! Am I missing out? If so, given this genre is not really my cup of tea, woud I like it?

I have watched Dr. Who for years. I was led to it by my high school students. This has been the dullest season ever! Don't care for the supporting characters, and I agree that " I wish the doctor had a bit more whimsy." The whole show is too serious this season. I loved Matt Smith and David Tennant as the doctors because they were funny and made fun of themselves. Jodie Whittaker is like a lukewarm superwoman. If you are reading this and want to try it, watch the seasons with David Tennant or Matt Smith.

It can be a silly distraction, but nothing beyond that. I loved Matt Smith's and David Tenant's take on Doctor Who, but disliked Peter Capaldi's. Since the series is dependent on each actor's take on it, and that changes from time to time (regeneration in the Doctor's world), it is at least is interesting in that aspect. Written well? Well, if you don't like to guess the end of something, then yes, I like that part. I can almost always guess where a plot line is headed and get there long before the story does, but Doctor Who often outwits me there. It's absolutely about whimsy though, nothing ground shattering.

I quit watching her. I didnt like it at all! I have been watching it for years and years. I subscribed to the Dr Who comic book too lol. My favorite Dr was Tom Baker. He never failed to entertain.

I watched Dr Who in England back in the sixties. I believe it was Patrick Troughton back then. It was pretty silly stuff and you got no explanation of what or why since the back story was in the process of being invented. It was fun and new. I have seen some episodes now and again since it came back in the early 2000s. I don't believe I have ever seen any of the betweenies. Fast Forward and DH started watching the recent back to back episodes of recent seasons. I like Matt smith the best as he has that irreverent air. I actually like the present Dr. Just goofie enough. I don't mind the posse but I also appreciated the contrast from before. Still since the sidekick females have been chosen for more sexual tension I don't think that would work so well with the present Dr. Originally they were sciencie types who frequently had clueless boyfriends. The shows original concept was to dispense science under the guise of Scifi.

I have watched this show since the late 1960's. I am not wild about the current Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, nor do I like the the ensemble cast. I thought it worked best with just one companion. And I really don't like what they have done to the Tardis.

I could never get into Peter Capaldi as The Doctor. My favorites of the current batch of doctors are David Tennant and Matt Smith, though Smith took awhile to get use to because of his manic personality. They and the scripts had a sense of humor. My old favorite was Tom Baker.

I think it is crazy that it is not coming back till 2020. I will have to watch this season all over again because I won't remember a thing.

We watch it, and I kind of liked this series, but not as much as David Tenant's Doctor. Does anyone know when the New Years special will be on US television?

Yes, I agree with all of the above. Trying to like the new doctor (Jodi) but having a hard time. Also don't care for all of her entourage and totally had the same opinion as rob right off the bat:

think it sends a message that while the men could handle things better
(i.e. just one other person to occasionally "help"), a woman can't save
the world without an entire posse.

Our cable station is erratic in airing episodes it seems. So, the new season is over already?? I think I only saw two or three episodes!

Only showed for those with cable. We have to wait for Amazon Prime or Netflix. :(

I've not watched the new Doctor yet (I'm still catching up, I am only up to the end of season 9 so have one more with Peter Capaldi).

With BBCAmerica doing the Dr. Who marathon week, and having DVR for the first time this year, I dvr'd all the seasons and started at the beginning again -- I hadn't been able to watch it since 2012 and never got past season 4, before starting again this last summer, so I didn't remember a lot of it..

Now, having watched season 1 again after seeing Tennant and Smith, I think that Eccleston is my least favorite - and I haven't really warmed up to Capaldi, either. He was just lacking something in his portrayal -- but I enjoy the series all the same.. .

If there won't be a season next fall, I think I may hold off on watching this year's episodes until next winter.

You know, they introduced Clara in the most intriguing way, but never continued with the "impossible girl" theme after or 3 episodes -- unless they pick it up in the next season -- I was disappointed.
