I have nine grapefruit....but I don't like grapefruit...
Comments (21)Well, I can't find the recipe I was thinking about, but I found these online and they are similar. Grapefruit Granita 2 cups Florida pink grapefruit juice 1/4 cup sugar 4 mint leaves 4 fresh Florida pink grapefruit slices In saucepan, combine grapefruit juice and sugar. Bruise mint leaves between fingers and add to saucepan. Bring mixture to just boiling, stirring to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat, cover and let stand 5 minutes. Remove mint leaves. Pour grapefruit mixture into ice cube trays; freeze. Just before serving, place a single layer of frozen cubes in food processor fitted with steel blade. Pulse 12 times or until no large chunks of ice remain. Spoon granita into stemmed glasses. Garnish with grapefruit slice. Repeat with remaining cubes. Serve immediately. Serves 4. Grapefruit Granita A web\-exclusive recipe from Italian Cooking and Living 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup water 2 1/2 cups red or pink grapefruit juice, bottled or fresh squeezed 2 tsp. lemon juice, preferably fresh squeezed Sprig of mint to garnish In a medium saucepan, add the water and the sugar and stir to combine; make sure to put the stirring spoon aside. Heat the mixture over medium high heat without stirring until mixture reaches a boil. Again, without stirring, cook mixture for about 5 minutes or until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. When cool, add the grapefruit and lemon juice and stir with a clean spoon. Pour the mixture into a 9x12" or other large, flat dish so that the mixture doesn't come up too high along the sides of the pan\-you will need room for stirring. Place the pan in the freezer, making sure it is level, for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, carefully remove pan and place it on a steady surface. Use a fork to stir the mixture thoroughly, making sure to break up any ice crystals that have formed along the side or bottom of container. Return the pan to the freezer and repeat the stirring every 30 minutes, making sure you break up any large chunks that form, for 3 to 4 hours or until mixture is thoroughly frozen. Fluff with a fork and spoon into small coffee cups or ice cream dishes. Garnish with mint. Serve immediately or return to the freezer in serving dishes for up to 4 days. Serves 6 Champagne Grapefruit Sorbet 3 cups good quality Champagne 1 cup sugar 1 1/4 cups water 1 cup pink grapefruit juice, freshly squeezed 1/3 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed Pop cork from champagne bottle 1 to 2 hours before using. Gradually pour champagne, allowing for foaming, into a 2-quart container; set aside. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until mixture comes to a boil; reduce heat to low and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat, cover, and let stand approximately 10 minutes or until cool. To champagne, add sugar syrup, grapefruit juice, and lemon juice (do not strain pulp from juices); stir until thoroughly blended. Ice Cream Maker - Transfer mixture to ice cream maker, process according to manufacturer's instructions. Freezer Method - Pour into container, cover, and place mixture in the freezer. When it is semi-solid, mash it up with a fork and refreeze again. When frozen, place in a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Cover and refreeze until serving time. NOTE: Can be prepared 3 days in advance. Cover and keep frozen. Makes 8 to 10 servings. Linda...See MoreBizarre Funny Story: House Cleaners & I Just Don't Mix!!
Comments (9)Oh, I'm sorry about your pendant--what a shame! I hope that the cleaning company will pay up! I've had the same cleaning woman for almost 20 years now. But we've had our share of mini-disasters! The biggest disaster was that her assistant knocked a painting off a shelf. It tumbled down the stairs, shattered the glass, destroyed the frame, and punched a big hole in the drywall at the bottom of the stairs! The painting (an original) was thankfully not damaged, but I had to get a new frame and glass. I was miffed--that painting had rested there for years and years, through troops of children, house guests, and dusting with nary a nick. I feel as if I have been pretty lucky. But I think I will go dust my Murano glass pendants right now, just to set my mind at ease......See MoreMay I see your silk floral arrangements? Eucalyptus?
Comments (17)I worked for a florist for 6 years - Dried E. will smell for a very long time! If you pinch a dried leaf or two off (near the bottom)or scrape the stalk occasionally it will renew the scent. Blow dryers work well for getting rid of dust - on house plants as well! Run on cool. E stems come in many sizes/heights/colors(bluish green the most natural) and are popular for large floor vases as well as smaller table style vases. In my experience they are not ofter used as a mixed arrangement with the exception of dried leaves/or berry type branches. They are sold frequently as a bunch wrapped in cellophane and are reasonably priced. You can break off smaller branches to fill out an arrangement at the bottom....See MoreDare I say I don't like it? Comments (68)I'm with pllog. I may not have bad allergy attacks most of the time, but cats love me and make a beeline for me when I go into a house. As a real estate agent, I try to be very careful to not insult the homeowner, but if they touch any exposed skin of mine, I have an instant rash. I make a joke about not being able to touch the cat while talking to the cat and most h.o.s get the hint and pick them up and often move them elsewhere. If a house has multiple cats or is not very clean, I will sniffle all day and feel lousy. Most of the time, I am not there long enough to have a really bad reaction. I only had my throat start to close up twice in my life. Running outside and gulping air fixed it. I can care about a friend and not want allergy problems or, quite frankly, to care about their cat. You can love whomever you want, but sometimes it is not proper to foist them on others. I adore our sons but it is not always proper to mix them with company. The same is true of pets. A quick hello is plenty. If I had worse allergies, then that would even be too much. Having a non allergy aversion is also acceptable. It is nothing personal about your pet, but some people have a fear of dogs and that does not make them bad people. I was bit by a chihuahua years ago and am still leery around them despite not having much fear of larger more imposing dogs. I have some allergies with certain breeds of dogs, but will still choose to pet them and suffer a small reaction. The key is it is my choice as to which pet I will touch or not. My allergy to dogs is less than to cats, but I also like dogs more. Not liking cats is a personal choice and does not preclude me being a good friend or guest. If that means someone thinks I am not worthy because I don't like their "Fluffy", then it is their loss. The funny part is I am usually the most attractive human in the room to cats. I can walk in with several cat lovers and the cats want nothing to do with them, but love me. They must love "hard to get" people....See MoreJasdip
