Santa and the Snowmen

I'm now past my family party and preparing for Elery's family get together. There will be another tenderloin, some "Mongolian" flavored venison, lots of cookies and fudge, his Mother's Appalachian Stack Cake. Tonight I worked on the cookies. There will only be 11 of us, so I only baked two dozen.
I had just enough of the candy decorations to make a dozen trees with Santa:
And another dozen trees with snowmen:
Tomorrow I'll bake gingerbread, those white chocolate and maraschino cherry shortbread cookies that Elery's son likes so much and make some mocha fudge. Christmas isn't over yet, and then we'll go straight into New Year's Eve, with The Princess and Her Brother spending the night here while their parents go to a party. Life is just one big party out here in the boonies...(grin)

Comments (6)Luvs, I thought I would freeze to death this morning. Our temps have been in the 70's during the day and 50's at night. But last night it dropped to 34 degrees with a windchill of 25 degrees - dang, that is cold!! I didn't have the heat on and was a bit chilly when I got up. My hubby wasn't here to complain so I cranked up the heater and the fireplace. It is better now, so funny because yesterday I had to turn on the air conditioner. I have been busy and now I have to decorate for the holidays. I still have eight more ornies to paint and a couple of special orders. I don't think I am going to put out as much stuff as I usually do, doubt that I will have time. As long as there is a tree and food, the ladies will be happy. I've been getting better results from my watercolor pencil than I was with any liquid paint before, but I'm open for learning a better technique. ha I have used the pastel chalks before with good effect too, but I have misplaced my little box of them. Reminds me I need to find them. I put them up where I could find them, but the children couldn't in one of my cleaning sprees, but it seems I hid them a little too good. ha Hate it when I do that. Comments (8)Hard to tell without knowing what look you are goin g for. My MO when doing a tree is always clear lights.....the color comes from the ornaments....once I tossed all the multicolored lights my trees got lots more like I wanted. The themed trees, like the one with antique scrap and old tiny German glass ornaments is easy, I just spread stuff evenly being careful not to put similar stuff next to each other. And the kitchen tree with the straw and Navajo and Pueblo ornaments is a little harder....but I just hang stuff on the ends of the branches, smaller stuff near the top and larger near the bottom. BUT the big tree in the family room has other "rules". Again white lights...lots and lots of them....about 1000 on a 7 foot tree. Then I hang the large balls, the ones grapefruit sized and larger near the center of the tree so it glows from within. Then the other stuff larger on the bottom and smaller near the top.....and finally smaller stuff on the ends of the branches, with a "focal" ornament on every side....like a large Radko Santa. The pickle is well hidden and then I drape it with glass bead garlands.....and pour another glass of wine and sit and admire it....See More- 7 years ago
