Comments (4)Nadine, I think you've cracked it with the reference to high altitude. My broms from high altitudes in countries close to the equator always fare better in winter than others from the same area/country, but lower altitudes. Best example in my collection is Tillandsia deppeana. Nary a blemish when we were hit with a record-breaking -8 C black frost this last winter. Other broms from more southern countries (in South America) also handle the cold better, with less importance to altitude - or rather a greater range of altitude in its natural habitat. I wish there was a magic formula that we could use - like: altitude + latitude + proximity to water/ocean - light factor x growth habit divided by humidity requirements = the same conditions in my garden! Too many variables for my poor brain to fathom! We just have to "grow and tell". But a bit of background information certainly aids better chance of success. Would love to see progress pics of your Mezobromelia. Cheers, Kerry...See MoreDo you have a Instant pot?
Comments (36)I have a funny story to share re instapot. Two years ago we started a massive kitchen renovation - I got my 6 burner Bluestar range, a walk in pantry, wall ovens - heaven ! Well, in the midst of it, DH discovers IP and started testing out Asian Indian cooking in it. Since we were kitchen-less for a longgg time and his engineering sense of precision to cooking naturally lent to IP cooking, I went along. Well here we are two years later and now we have 2 IPs (and threatening to buy a third small one ... for "those times when you we might need one ! LOL ".DH is turning into a IP-dictator whereby he automatically assumes that any cooking I do can be done faster and taste better in IP. It doesnt help that HIS instapot recipes are really yummy and a great hit with our boys and with friends ! I was half joking to him that instead of upgrading to bluestar rangetop, we should have bought 6 IPs for a fraction of the cost :) If anyone wants to try good IP dishes for Asian Indian cooking I highly recommend https://ministryofcurry.com/top-10-instant-pot-recipes/ Note: No relation to the author, just a blog DH swears by for his IP recipes. Comments (80)I have both a 3 quart and a 6 quart IP Ultra and use at least one every day, if not both. Also have a Gourmia GAF635 air fryer, which I use almost every day. These have been life changers for me. I have a very bad back and could no longer stand for long periods of time cooking, so was not eating healthy meals. These two tools have now made it possible for me to, once again, eat very healthily. I cook nearly everything in it's frozen state; meat, vegetables, fish, poultry. Also cook fresh vegetables and they are wonderful in the IP or AF. Forgot to mention that I make yogurt about every 1 1/2 in the 6 quart IP in cups about the size of the yogurt purchased in grocery stores. I make it plain and unsweetened, so that I can use it in lieu of sour cream. When I want to eat one, I add one or a mixture of: apple butter, Nutella, jam/preserves, KoolAid, frozen fruit, fresh fruit, etc. One day I wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but didn't want or need the bread. So I mixed peanut butter and jam into my serving of yogurt; absolutely delicious....See MoreInstant Pot came yesterday
Comments (7)you could do the water test... then HB a few eggs. I started out doing 1 egg, then moved up to 2. now I usually do 4-5 at a time. which reminds me - I need to go put some on to HB! watch Jeffrey's video for beginners - pressureluckcooking. he's also coming out with a cookbook. I thought it was out already but reading on the IP FB page I think it's still in the future a few months. that's the only one I'd buy. otherwise use tried and true websites like Jeffrey's, Amy and Jacky's, this old gal's etc. they each have tons of recipes to try and are often listed on the IP FB page....See MoreUser
