I really have to stop this. :( It's an addiction, I tell you!

I went for a walk today. I always take my little bag with my clippers, a trowel, and plastic bags just in case. Decided to stop by the community garden trash pile to see what could be had. I ended up with:

12 brugmansia pups (have no idea what kind, but I know they're cold hardy, so YAY!) There were lots more, but I ony had two bags. I'll probably go back and get more tomorrow.

3 rooted offshoots of red firespike. I've been wanting this for so long! I hope they live. they root easily, so I have them in water now.

Cuttings of some kind of plant that I didn't recognize, but it had buds that look like little yellow flowers, and a seed pod on one limb, but I'll find out soon.

I passed up the dozens of eddoe (taro) roots. My friend always discards a ton of them after he harvests. I may get more of those tomorrow as well, but to eat, not plant.

Passed on the plumbago cuttings, because I don't have room for anything really big.

Also passed up a pup from a smaller banana. I know it only gets about 7 feet tall, so it may be Raja Puri. I don't know if I want another banana plant. I'm still trying to get rid of the ones I have.

I really need to stop bringing plants home, but I'm redoing all the gardens this year, so these are for the courtyard.

Sometimes I do the same but today I gave someone mother of thousands in hopes that it will annoy her as much as she annoys me.

I don't know why my replies are getting deleted, but it seems to happen more and more.

Glenn, I used to have a neighbor who annoyed me so much that I wanted to plant poison ivy in his yard. Yet, we must try to refrain from these rudenesses. I'm sure the people who now have my house are STILL fighting the MoM, snake plants and Boston ferns.

Can only get it in Little Rock & only when I get down that way! And a great wariety of brug cuttings! What more could one want?? :)) Scented Candles - more CHOCOLATE?? And a book?? Thanks, Michelle, I think I can understand maybe 10 cylces or so. But hey, whatever - like I said, it's the hardware affecting durability and servicability that I want to talk about, and most people at the store just give you a stammering reply there. My Maytag died after 6 years, which is atrocious IMHO. The bearings seized on the motor. No, you can't change them, it's a new motor and belt for $130, with me doing the work. I want to have some idea that if I dump a grand into a washing machine, I'm buying a good motor and drum and solenoid valves and hoses, not fancy firmware that ends up shorting out due to insuffcient control housings. But at least I know I don't need steam! Thanks, all! BTW I'm leaning towards a Bosch 500 (WFMC5301UC). Hoping the door mold issue is gone, and hoping someone knows something about them. Looks like either that or the LG TROMM, but I like the layout of the Bosch's controls and the way the door frame allows easier access to the drum. But I guess that's kind of wondering off-topic for this thread. I'm searching for info here and elsewhere, so thought I'd mention it.

I tried the Hellman's Olive Oil mayonnaise "dressing". It was so bad I actually called the 800 number on the package and told them. It doesn't taste of olive oil at all, but it is SWEET. If I wanted SWEET, I'd have bought the freaking Miracle Whip (which will never cross my threshold)! I understand that it is "dressing" and not mayonnaise. I didn't expect it to taste like mayo. But if I buy "Olive Oil Mayonnaise Dressing", I expect some sort of olive oil flavor, not a sugar flavor.

Hi Marlorena, There were a couple of threads a short while back about Filroses and importing their plants into the U.S.. I got some mixed messages about inspections and a quarantine that are required (or not). I am still totally mixed up, but my impression is that getting Filroses plants into, say, Canada, is a lot easier than into the U.S. Even Pickering in Canada has had recent troubles with U.S. red tape. I should contact Filroses and see what they say, but negative info about importing plant material has dampened my enthusiasm. Thanks so much for your comments, though. I still need that diplomat with the locking attache case, I guess. Diane

DG I really do try not to use my knowledge for such things but if I ever see that lady again it will be to soon.

Boston ferns are impossible to get rid of I'm sure that they are and I just had a snake plant pop up in my garden. Haven't decided yet if I will let it grow. Got a couple of other volunteers I'm not sure what they are or how they got there.

I once got some free mulch from a city dump outside of North Port where developers dumped all the trees from cleared land, and all sorts of stuff came up in it. That's where I got my original Candlestick Cassia, and the last time I drove by there, I noticed they had them growing everywhere. Cheap potting soil and topsoil can also have seeds and spores, because it's not sterilized as well as the brand names like Miracle Gro..

I love volunteers, and I always have a few. I'm no doubt going to be overrun with Chinquapin oak volunteers next year, since my tree has produced an abundance of acorns this year.
