i don't do a lot with make-up, but i do find it much roomier than a traditional med cab. it is nicer for wide things... like i keep a whole q-tip container in there & it fits fine, whereas before i had to transfer some into a smaller container every so often & keep the larger pack in a closet. i also can keep more meds/vitamins in there, since they fit more to a shelf now. other things, like deodorant & lotion & brushes still take up the same amount of space as they used to, since they are used daily & can't be "layered" very well with other things, at least for my use. i like to be able to grab without thinking in the morning :) and if i have something behind my lotion, etc., it will be in my way when i go to grab it & make me mad :) hope your decision works out for you! lisa

Well I do plan a more extensive makeover next year or the year after with vanity and countertop replacement and probably floor, and tile backsplash...but I just can't stand looking at this "1980 rental apartment" bathroom every morning for an indefinite period! Thanks for the tile frame idea that's great! It would not take a lot if tile and could really dress things up! Yes I think the light fixture has got to go- but with what? I have never picked light fixtures before and don't know where to start- it is the only source of light and the shower is on the other side of the room so it needs to throw some light up to the ceiling as well as down. I thought of building some kind of soffit like shade in front of it and then using brighter bulbs... Does that sound crazy? So what about several shades lighter of revere pewter for ceiling or should I just go white? Maybe a darker color in the same taupey grey family for the ugly vanity... I think it would be a little less functional, but would still work. Who says you need to be directly in front of the sink when you're using the mirror? Most of my mirror time is doing something not directly sink related like makeup or hair. I certainly don't need the mirror to brush my teeth or wash my face or hands. However, one key difference between the "justification picture" and your mockup is that the inspiration mirror edges go all the way to the edges of the sink. So when you're standing directly in front of the sinks, your face isn't cut off by the frame. I think it would work better with minimal or no frame and as large as you can to try to max the width to cover both sinks.

Besides just "liking the look" (or not) of a big mirror, I'm of the camp that a mirror should be big enough to reflect what you need or want it to reflect. If you've got a big window overlooking a nice view or a tree or even art, sure, get a mirror that will reflect those things back to you. If the mirror will reflect natural light, then, sure. If your bathroom is so tiny that you feel claustrophobic and a mirror will help ease your phobia (ok, or will just make it feel better to you,) sure, get a bigger mirror. That said - is it important to you that the bathroom *seem* bigger than it is? Maybe it is. Truth is, I don't really even *need* a mirror over my vanity. I don't wear makeup and I don't "do" my hair. I do like a mirror over the vanity because that's what I'm used to - so a small mirror is all I need.
