Bedroom/Bathroom Layout Help! Jack & Jill or Not?
Comments (28)our new build is incorporating a J&J for the kids also. Here's the space from our drawings I don't know how it translates to the space you have, but hopefully it helps. I wanted the kids to have the ability to go to the bathroom/brush their teeth/get ready if someone else was in the shower. Plus the privacy, etc. etc. We had the ability to accommodate two full baths, but found the extra cost to be unnecessary (it was a few thousand in extra plumbing, fixtures, materials). It also meant that each would be a smaller bathroom, versus a nice size J&J. I'm really happy with the decision so far!...See MoreHow would I turn a 3 bedroom into a 4 bedroom?
Comments (29)I know you will hate me for this, but please understand my view point. I am an old house LOVER! I also spent twenty years as a banker trying to talk people into understanding that their future home purchase had to be about love....and practicality. When you are in love with a house you think that the fact that it slapped around the last owners was likely because they were bad owners...they probably deserved it because they didn't do the maintenance you would do to keep it in check. You justify the little issues like the third eye as something minor instead of realizing that a third eye is not actually a normal thing and will require some seriously expensive custom lenses. You turn a wet basement into a couple puddles.... Ten years,..no lets make it five if you get the house....if you find that my pessimistic attitude was totally incorrect and your home turned out to be perfect beyond compare...please tell me I am wrong so I can learn a lesson. But if on the other hand my gazillion years of trying to make people understand that they should buy a home they love....but should equally involve their brains and heart in the equation turns out to make some sense in your potential chris brown like situation.....well be sure to share that valuable experience as well so that others can learn from you...and make light of your experience because "that will never happen to them". I tried to buy the egg and I farm as a young wife ohhhhh so many years ago thinking that a house with walls falling down and a tree growing in the living room just needed our tender and inexperienced care to bring it back.....the bank laughed...thank god!...See MoreBasement layout - narrow and dark access coming down the steps?
Comments (20)Wow. You guys are awesome! After talking it over with my husband - we decided on swapping the playroom and office. We will also add double french doors that can bring light in to the entertainment area. We do need that full bath as my mom will stay with us (weeks at a time from overseas). The playroom will be at the bottom of the steps so I can peak on the girls while im upstairs clean/cooking/doing whatever. The staircase will be open so we can pivot furniture. This will bring light in immediately as well. Under the stairs will be added storage for their art supplies/school supplies...etc. The bath will be right off the bottom of the steps so people can quickly access the bathroom if the powder room is occupied upstairs. It also removes the bathroom from being open to the entertainment area....See Morerelocate 3rd upstairs bedroom to basement for a master bath
Comments (5)It’s funny because when I my best friend visited with my god children a few years ago he put the small one to bed in the basement because he said if she wakes up and hears us she will not go back to bed and it will be a long night so she does better far away from us. So certainly needs vary even with kiddos. I know digging is definately an expense. Therein lies the problem…the ceiling is only about 74 inches. It’s certainly fine for sub 6 foot folks… the egress window will probably help the overall feel of the room A lot but the room won’t be very big.… just big enough for a queen and small dresser. I could see it being claustrophobic for more than an occasional use guest but I have seen kids rooms of similar size. If we do it will likely put a day bed. if I was a teenager I would 100% take a small basement room with en-suite over a larger bedroom upstairs. In my case this room would likely be where mom stays since it would be near the media room and she likes her privacy....See MoreMacKenzie
