I anguished about what to put in our 1916 bungalow after removing the original linoleum. We figured that the floor probably couldn't support ceramic and we do almost everything ourselves so didn't want anything complicated (2nd floor bathroom). And we also had the original clawfoot tub to contend with. We ended up going down to the original pine flooring, finished it with Waterlox and left it at that for now. We don't have small children in the house, don't expect much in the way of drips or floods, and I realized you can only expend so much time and energy on it. It IS a bathroom, after all. When we sell, we might have to finish it differently but we like it nail & hammer marks and all. I think it would be just as OK to put some kind of floating floor in there, like an interlocking laminate wood or even ceramic-looking pattern. You can always pull it up later. Our bathroom is fairly small so changing it later would be no big deal as long as nothing's permanent. I don't know about yours though. I also really wanted to try the Marmoleum click tiles. They say they're not for wet applications, but again, barring major leakage . . . plus I think they have to say that to cover themselves. Just my 2 cents.

Before you pay $35 plus a gal and get it home and you not like it..why not see if BM sells the jar of sample paint in your chosen color? $4 for a sample if it is available could save you not only money but a lot of frustration and stress. We have learned to do that first. Putting the small cardboard sample chart on the wall doesn't do it for me so my very clever former Duron paint mgr. suggest we buy white poster board and buy sample or qt. size and paint that poster board the chosen color and use the paint tape to hang it on your wall where you can look at it for a few days before definately deciding if it is the right color you want to live with for a few years. That blue paint tape will not damage your wall or leave the residue that scotch tape will do. I came upon a website by accident on yesterday and although it was not on BM website, it showed a list of the most used BM paint colors and what rooms they were used in. I bookmarked it for future reference. There are other paint companies that are selling the sample paints, which is a super idea in my opinion. Less costly trial and error method!

Benjesbride, where does she lose the 2"? It appears that she is not aware of the loss. Rebeccamomof123, are you pulling permits to do the work, or do you live in an area where the city/town/county inspectors are going to become aware of the work and expect to come in and inspect it? Or is your area more like where I live and anything short of an addition is something that no one will notice and that inspectors don't drop in when workmen are around unless it is really obvious that a big job is being done? The reason I ask is that your clearance for the toilet-to-tub distance is right on the edge of being okay. Some towns will not let you get that close. If you could get inspected by the code enforcement officer, or if you are doing this with permits, you need to draw this up and get it approved before assuming it is going to be approved. If you need to steal back a couple of inches to make it fit, one option is a wall-hung toilet. Your contractor opens up the wall behind your toilet and puts the tank and flushing works inside the wall (not the stuff you have, it is custom made for this purpose) and then the toilet part actually hangs off the wall and never touches the floor. It is much nicer for cleaning. Hi Kim, so many comments to fish through but I think the only for sure thing so far is the wood look tile flooring? SO do yourself a big favor here and commit to white tile. Keep it clean and classic. Bring in fresh color with your paint. If you want that blue tile then do just a touch as a stripe or trim in the shower. What are your counters? Cabinets? Fixtures? Here I've used the wood plank tile on a herringbone for floor. In shower kept it simple with a beveled white large format subway for walls. Inset niche with a Carrara hexagon and did the same on shower floor. It leans coastal with the paint color and Capiz shell chandelier.
