They will relax the patient, give them back their appetite, and relieve most of the emotional and physical stress of chemo. Make sure that whatever strain you use for the infusion is an INDICA not a Sativa. Indica strains relax, Sativa strains get you energized.

Thanks, Ricky. As you know, I'm in Michigan and we just voted to legalize recreational marijuana, it's been available as "medical marijuana" for several years, with a prescription. However, most mainstream doctors, including the neurologists for my daughter and grandson, will not prescribe cannabis, only a handful of doctors will. Plus my brother is in constant pain and using a lot of opiods for his muscular dystrophy/metabolic myopathy, so I've been encouraging him to try cannabis if/when it becomes legal.

Of course, it will be regulated, not available to those under 21, no driving under the influence, amounts that can be possessed will be controlled, and it'll take a little time before it's readily available. Insurance companies will not cover it as medication, of course, so it could be expensive. But, I am encouraged, and hope that it will help some ill people without involving the pharmaceutical industry too deeply.

FOAS, I was afraid something was amiss with your wife. I'm sorry she's reacting badly to the chemo, I don't think that's ever easy but it's harder sometimes than others I think. I'll be sending lots of good healing thoughts and you and your family will be in my prayers.

I think anything that could possibly be helpful should be tried, and I do hope you can find something to make your wife more comfortable.

Amanda is celiac, so no gluten, that might make it more of a challenge to make cookies, I think. I know that things like caramels and gummy bears are available in other states too...

Not CBD oil, RSO which is the full plant extract instead. RSO does kill cancer cells. CBD oil does amazing things as well, but it does not fight cancer or help chemo patients. THC is best for that.

FOAS, I'm so sorry. Good thing we've got Ricky here to guide us : ) Wish it'd been available for my dad years ago. The chemo made him so sick he gave up on it. Happily, he survived that. It's not legal here, but my physician is a proponent, and says it does wonders for cancer/chemo and Parkinson's according to other physicians she consults, which obviously many here on this forum already know. She's the one who told me to get the CBD oil, full spectrum for my RSD Type II. It does help me significantly.

Compared to other prescription drugs, pot is CHEAP!! And even cheaper with legalization!! Maybe that's why it is not so readily prescribed...........no one is getting rich from medical marijuana sales except for the states that have legalized it and now reap the tax benefits.

Rick Simpson Oil or RSO is not something that you can buy online or from a website. There are now thousands of stories of people who have survived cancer by using RSO with or without conventional medications. FOAS you should seek this out as soon as possible.

CBDs have so many medical uses that it's more than likely that they will work on RSD and its variants. 2many CBDs are legal just about everywhere. Best of luck with it!

If you live in a state where medical cannabis is legal you should find a local source for RSO. They are there, you just need to know how to find them. In Colorado, while we were fighting Suzi's lung cancer, RSO was readily available for around $200 for a two-ounce package. The dosage is 60 grams (the whole package) in 90 days.

Ricky - I didn’t even realize NY has been a medical-legal state since 2014. Looking at her provider’s site they seem to accept it to help treat side effects but (of course) are skeptical of its use as a treatment. They did mention interactive concerns, that it can interfere with metabolization of other medicines. I’ll ask, realizing of course that they may have different opinions and motivations.

Not for all Parkinson's patients. My SIL discussed it with her physicians and was told it would interfere with her other meds. She did recently have deep brain stimulation surgery and is finally getting some relief.

Please ask her physicians how a plant can interfere with their medications? Parkinson's patients are one of the groups that has had the best results from CBD-based cannabis preparations.

From my own experience, when I lived in South Florida, I baked cannabis cookies for two male Parkinson's patients in their early 50s. One had been forced to give up his driver's license. After a month or two of cannabis, he was able to pass a driving test and get it back.

CindyMac - if you can get CBD-based tinctures where you live, you should get it for your SIL and have her try it just once. She doesn't have to stop taking her medications; I'm not a doctor and I would never give that advice. But remember, we're talking about a plant here, not something brewed up in a laboratory.

I personally know of only one other person with RSD type II in my area, and he wasn't helped with CBD oil, so I think like any medication the benefits vary, just as our bodies do.

Ricky, you're right, you're not a doctor. One size doesn't fit all.

My father died from cancer at age 90 a few months ago. At one point, he was prescribed a "marijuana pill" to stimulate his appetite. All it did was make him wacky when he normally had his mind and he quickly stopped it. A palliative care doctor will treat the side effects from chemotherapy. They usually want to know anything that is bothering you so they can make it tolerable.

Here in MA we can now, as of November, legally purchase THC, CBD, or the combo. Two friends and I finally went a month ago to check the place out.

At least here, they sell grapeseed oil infused either of the 3 ways. I picked up the combo. This saves on making cannabutter and you know how much is in a specific dose.

Annie, you don't need to make cookies with it. Not really having an active sweet tooth, I opted to make mashed potatoes, and where one would mash in butter, I added the special oil... plus whatever else I like to put in mashed potatoes. The other time I've used it so far, I measured it into a stir fry. You could even use it as a salad dressing, apparently.

I was on my feet yesterday ALL day - my neuropathy has kicked in. Will do something for dinner tonight... (the issue is entrapped nerves after surgery to repair a broken ankle).

Slightly o/t. There will need to be some etiquette in social situations now that edibles and medicinals are becoming readily available. While I am very supportive of legalizing pot, excited about the possibilities of medicinals I think those who partake need to be respectful of those who choose not to.

Examples

Several times I have been to dinners where dishes were cooked in pot butters/oils. Not something like brownies or cookies where one could partake or not without rudeness. The meal itself.

At Christmas dinner someone had made caramels - at some point the host and father of two curious kiddos came through to asked everyone to pay attention to where they left their ‘candy’. Another adult guest ate one unknowingly and left early very upset.

Full confession - I am a hippie kid. My parents were generally responsible but many of their at that time child-free friends much less so. While I grew up in a wonderful community I do remember social occasions where there was absolutely nothing childsafe to eat or drink.

Agmss, smart to bring this up, and I agree. So many states are now legalizing (ours decided to wait until next year to even decide on legalizing for medicinal which is so frustrating). I am, and my physician is a proponent for medicinal purposes here, while I have no real opinion thus far on legal recreational… My parents were of the feeling it had no use until they grew older, at which time they felt it was completely needed and also frustrated at our state lawmaker’s viewpoints (against).

Many people I think would be intelligent/considerate about serving food which was pot-infused, but not all I feel. While I use CBD oil, I can only do so in the evenings before bed. Everyone has different reactions, but I know pot is something my brain can no longer tolerate due to neurological issues. If I were served anything without being told I’d be utterly furious as I’d lose a good week of work and chores due to my overreaction.

If you go to a dinner and the host or one or more of the guests has prepared a food item with cannabis, they should have the common sense to tell everyone. Likewise with cannabis treats - they should be kept where children can't get at them. You wouldn't leave an open bottle of wine where a child would get it, would you? People who make these errors will hopefully be educated by others before someone is hurt.

The common phrase - "do you partake?" - has become somewhat of a standard when asking a stranger if they use cannabis. It needs to be used more often and everyone should know what it means.

I've hidden the purchases so that the one child who sometimes comes into my home can't remotely even find that chocolate candy bar. Yes, she's a polite little kid and never pries, but still. And no, I won't be cooking for others with cannabinoid substances unless 1) they know in advance, and 2) they're either living just down the road - and will be going home immediately - or spending the night. (OR have a Designated Driver.)

To make things more complicated, when Canada legalized cannabis, a typo in the bill resulting in the Legislature voting to legalize * cannibalism *. And the bill passed. I suppose it was later fixed though that correction, being boring, didn't make the news.

What would hostess mealtime etiquette dilemmas would that have created? Is it a delicious thought? We'll never know.

My husband, likes to put a few drops of CBD tincture in his mask. He finds it helps with his painful neuromuscular problems, and also makes him not mind wearing a mask.

FOAS, my friend who also lives in NY got her Rx for medical marijuana a couple years ago and what they gave her was not marijuana but some synthetic pill. Didn't do a thing for her.

Look at the language of a suspect post as well. People who are first timers and add to older threads usually come in two types: An addition to the previous content, usually not realizing how old the thread is, or a new question that relates to the title (people used to fora with thread police who believe in more length, fewer threads). When there's a post that doesn't ask for help, or make any reference to the foregoing conversation, but instead is a blurb which could be posted in any thread, anywhere it would be vaguely on topic, and has a commercial link to an obscure website (not, here it is on Amazon, FYI stuff), you can be pretty sure it's spam.

Also, please do not click on unknown websites. Many are from countries known for dangerous web activities. That's where you pick up viruses and other troublesome stuff.

PM - By NYS law, it can’t be bud. Vape, sublingual, capsules. Sounds like your friend’s prescriber was specific on the certification, which would be unfortunate. My doctor made recommendations but left the form completely open ended; he encouraged me to try different things and see what I’m happy with.
