Can you see this mirror with my entry table?
Comments (18)I think you want the mirror to be at least 2/3 of the width of the sideboard, so about 40 inches. I think it needs to reach to at least the point where the top of the mirror is now, so allowing for hanging it a bit above the sideboard, maybe at least 30 inches in height. What you might also think about is searching for something with a bit of a curved top, like a crown or arch, to pick up on the shield-back shape of the chairs. You can also search for 'buffet mirror', as the dimensions should be closer to what you might want. Don't limit yourself to what you see online or on craigslist. Take a trip to a large lighting department or lighting store. They have catalogues full of mirrors from companies like Quoizel that also sell lighting. It will let you see what is out there, and give you ideas of what you might want for the space....See MoreHelp With Hanging Entry Mirror and Entry Table Arrangement
Comments (10)I think you need to decide if the mirror is for primping, or just for a design statement. If you look at many foyer pix, including a couple here, the mirror is practically covered up by a larger floral arrangement directly in front of it. It is not about checking your lipstick. The reason I mention it is because I think the mirror needs to hang on the lower 2/3 of the wall space between the light and the tabletop - and likely that will make it a bit low for some people to use for grooming purposes. I think the box is nice, and can certainly sit in front of the mirror a bit. I think the floral piece is way too casual and rustic for the other pieces in the group, and also disappears as the color of the vase is almost identical (at least in the pix) to the color of the table. I would rather see you find an interesting pair of antique brass or black iron urns to place on either side of the mirror, and fill with taller greenery and branches to add volume on either side of the mirror. The paired urns would also add a more formal feel there. Consider adding a decorative mirror hanger and cording to give the mirror more vertical presence....See MoreBought an oval mirror for my entry table today
Comments (19)I'm so happy you like it Les. Thank you for suggesting the oval mirror as I think it looks much better than a rectangular one. I'm not so worried about the sconce. I made the best choices I could when we remodeled and had no furniture and little vision. Now I feel I have more of a direction where I want to go, and these things can always be changed over time; however, I don't see the point continuing to go in a transitional direction, even though that is where I started out. The way I understand transitional, it can either work with traditional or modern elements so while I agree it's not the best fit, I'm hoping it won't be a glaring mismatch either. I fully admit I am a novice in the world of design and decorating and appreciate everyone's input. I'm trying to be more careful with my decisions since we've already spent so much on this remodel. In hindsight, I would've wired for twin sconces and done the ones with the little shades. Now that would've popped! My GC suggested that location and there have been many times I've regretted it as the sconce choices were so very limited so I mostly kept it simple. So much is that way in a remodel that it's only after the fact we realize all the things we would've done differently....See Morewhere should i hang this mirror? pics inside
Comments (11)I would've said next to the dresser, too -- because that's where it seems more natural light is (a little more than near the end table because it's not on the same wall). But, since there's already a full-size mirror next to the dresser, why hang another mirror nearby? It's pretty, but why is it really needed? Clearly the nightstand looks kind of alone there, but is there something else that would be more useful for that wall space? How old is your daughter? Does she read in bed? Is there small wall light that we don't see? Maybe a wall light or lamp is needed there? And the nightstand is looking full of stuff now. Maybe she needs some small shelves above it instead? I just can't see her getting much use of another mirror there if she has a full-length one nearby. Sure, it'd be decorative, but it would seem to me to be redundant. (Or what about artwork there? Maybe something she's created?)...See More- 5 years ago
