I have to say your house is looking beautiful. I've been following the Val threads. Love your drapes and sofa from CC. Love your Baker furniture. I am a big fan of Baker. Love the color fabric on your chairs.

Now about the mirror.I forget what the light over the table looks like. So, opinion is based on that fact.
I think the mirror is too plain for the table. I would like to see something with a little more of a thicker frame and with a little more detail.

I think that mirror is perfect above your Baker table. A more ornate mirror would overpower that pretty table, imho.

Wanted to suggest "Ook" hangers from Linen's N Things. They will hold really heavy pieces (they come in various sizes), and there's no need to use something like a drywall anchor that will leave a big hole in the wall. I use those and put a few of those little clear rubber bumpers on the backs of large pieces, they hang straight, don't mar the paint on the wall.

The mirror reveals you havent rearranged the living room!!!! We can see the back of the piano.

jerseygirl: My sconce is actually a transitional piece which I selected before I had any vision for these rooms so I'm hoping having a simplier mirror will help it blend with the more traditional entry table. I mostly look for pieces with character that are antique or vintage and enjoy the hunt and hope the end result looks OK.

gk5040: Actually my trim guy has rearranged it! LOL! Call it dump all the furniture in the middle. At this point, I'm waiting for him to finish up. He's working part time of this--Wed he will finish the crown and then needs 1-2 days for touchups. So with any luck he'll be done by the weekend. Meanwhile, I have a much clearer direction where I'm headed.

Val what a diligent hard worker you are - I love your mirror - I would suggest having dh hang the sconce 1st (since that can only go one place) then you can decide exact placement for table & mirror

jejvtr: I can actually move the piano myself. I put the wheels inside these little bumpers that are made to move pianos on a wood floor and the I just push slowly and carefully. I bought them at LNT--if you need the name let me know and I'll find out when I get my hangers for the mirror. My trim guy did not want to move it (I guess for the reasons you mentioned or did not want to throw out his back or something so my DH moved it for him). That's why I'm just leaving everything there now until he's done. Thanks for the compliments on my hardwork. I feel it's going so slowly--compared with squirrel's version! As for your house, what could you possibly have left? Your home has been one of my early inspirations back when we were remodeling the kitchen.

I like the mirror with the table. A little hard to tell for sure about the proportion, since the photo is taken from the side, but I think it works.

I am not sure about it with the sconce, to be honest, but I know you said the sconce is staying for a while.

I agree with Jejvtr to wait and hang the mirror until the sconce is back in place. I would think about keeping the mirror closer to the table, and not hung exactly between the tabletop and the sconce. Keep the focus down a bit to the table/mirror grouping.

I'm so happy you like it Les. Thank you for suggesting the oval mirror as I think it looks much better than a rectangular one. I'm not so worried about the sconce. I made the best choices I could when we remodeled and had no furniture and little vision. Now I feel I have more of a direction where I want to go, and these things can always be changed over time; however, I don't see the point continuing to go in a transitional direction, even though that is where I started out. The way I understand transitional, it can either work with traditional or modern elements so while I agree it's not the best fit, I'm hoping it won't be a glaring mismatch either. I fully admit I am a novice in the world of design and decorating and appreciate everyone's input.

I'm trying to be more careful with my decisions since we've already spent so much on this remodel. In hindsight, I would've wired for twin sconces and done the ones with the little shades. Now that would've popped! My GC suggested that location and there have been many times I've regretted it as the sconce choices were so very limited so I mostly kept it simple. So much is that way in a remodel that it's only after the fact we realize all the things we would've done differently.

Don't feel badly. I don't know of one person that hasn't made some design choices that they love, and a few that they end up regretting. Sometimes the vision develops over time, the sense of what you really want the space to be, and what it wants to be. And you know what they say about hindsight being 20/20!

I did spot this little sconce today, and thought this could be something that might work if down the line you decide to replace the sconce you have. It would appear that the lighting would all fall below the actual connection point, so would be down a bit on the wall and more connected with the mirror and table. Personally I would probably either eliminate the crystals or change them out to all clear or amber, but that is just me.

Your home is coming together wonderfully, and you have a real sense of style. The only thing I would say is don't be in a rush to get all the pieces in place, and settle for something you don't really love.

I like the mirror with the table - nice choices (as are the others things you've been purchasing recently). I agree with the others to put the sconce back up first, then I would see the mirror not really centered in between, but a little further down so it looks to be part of the grouping with the table. Things are really coming together - congratulations!

I wouldn't center it either, as approx thirds are a more pleasing proportion. I'd think it would look floating, also. I'd keep it at human scale so it works well for you, lowered towards the table rather than centered.

I was also thinking about a little antiquing on it, but it does look great as-is, without messing it up!

Funny, the little chandy dropping down must have been floating around in web space as Les was picking it out! as I had the same idea last night. :) Might be sweet. And a bit different!

Les: Cute little fixture. I'll keep it in mind. My DH is going to flip his lid if I tell him 1/2 the things everyone is suggesting I do. :) Especially as then I'd need to replace the dining room chandelier... It's all in the long range plan.... but for now I know he is sick of my weekend honey do list.

squirrel: That makes sense about keeping it lower and I know what you mean about the idea of thirds. Right now I have 49" between table and fixure and mirror is 32"H, that leaves me 17" leftover. It looks like the fixture will go down a bit so that's not too much extra space anyway. Any suggestions on how much space to leave from top of table to bottom of mirror?
