Can you see this mirror with my entry table?
Comments (18)I think you want the mirror to be at least 2/3 of the width of the sideboard, so about 40 inches. I think it needs to reach to at least the point where the top of the mirror is now, so allowing for hanging it a bit above the sideboard, maybe at least 30 inches in height. What you might also think about is searching for something with a bit of a curved top, like a crown or arch, to pick up on the shield-back shape of the chairs. You can also search for 'buffet mirror', as the dimensions should be closer to what you might want. Don't limit yourself to what you see online or on craigslist. Take a trip to a large lighting department or lighting store. They have catalogues full of mirrors from companies like Quoizel that also sell lighting. It will let you see what is out there, and give you ideas of what you might want for the space....See MoreBought an oval mirror for my entry table today
Comments (19)I'm so happy you like it Les. Thank you for suggesting the oval mirror as I think it looks much better than a rectangular one. I'm not so worried about the sconce. I made the best choices I could when we remodeled and had no furniture and little vision. Now I feel I have more of a direction where I want to go, and these things can always be changed over time; however, I don't see the point continuing to go in a transitional direction, even though that is where I started out. The way I understand transitional, it can either work with traditional or modern elements so while I agree it's not the best fit, I'm hoping it won't be a glaring mismatch either. I fully admit I am a novice in the world of design and decorating and appreciate everyone's input. I'm trying to be more careful with my decisions since we've already spent so much on this remodel. In hindsight, I would've wired for twin sconces and done the ones with the little shades. Now that would've popped! My GC suggested that location and there have been many times I've regretted it as the sconce choices were so very limited so I mostly kept it simple. So much is that way in a remodel that it's only after the fact we realize all the things we would've done differently....See MoreWhat "art" would you hang on these entry-way walls?
Comments (33)How about some elegant black iron scroll work? There are scads of varieties and they are often the perfect solution for a wall that needs that certain "something". (The photos are from my home.) I recommend choosing art that a) reflects your interests and b) makes you happy every time you see it. You said you can't your hang travel visas and martinis, but why not? You could frame your travel visas and arrange them under a large matte. For the martinis, you could either buy a painting or print of them or literally frame some martini classes in a shadow box. You might also consider vintage travel posters from places you love or that you've already been to. Your home is very nice!...See MoreLong Living Room Arrangement help! Windows + Entry ways
Comments (5)I guess even if we do just one sofa in the far area (since we will eventually get rid of the pullout couch), what kind of set up would make sense for the entry way? Even if we are looking at getting new furniture....See MoreValerie Noronha
