I think I understand your style - because I like similar styles. You may be able to sand off some of the texture - messy, but possible. Otherwise, just paint above the beadboard any color you like. For the beadboard itself, consider a white rather than the glazed look in your photo - is that your inspiration photo or another part of your home?

I like the window treatments in this one and the pictures on the wall - simple prints that look like they can survive some steam. Pretty china is another wall decor idea - can definitely take the steam.

I may try to convince my husband to do that as well ;-) I'm getting a little ahead of my self...though would like to ask...should I continue the wainscoting/beadboard to my master bedroom ? I would get the bathroom done first and then think about the bedroom. You will want your style to flow from one room to another, but that doesn't mean you need to carry the beadboard over, and some rooms can have a little different take on your style. A good place to get inspiration is to look at good examples of colonial / vintage style and avoid the "faux" - which is why I am not so fond of the glazing in the pic. I find going back to the past and avoiding the trendy helps create a more timeless look.

Even though I said avoid the "faux" I do mix an occasional Hobby Lobby or similar decor piece in, though I like to walk through the many antique stores in my area to add some truly old pieces. I've picked up pretty, but very inexpensive mismatched china for the walls in my kitchen. (Unfortunately, I am old enough that some of the decor I bought when first married is showing up in some of these places - apparently having hit vintage status.)

I also have used the beadboard wallpaper - especially in areas that I want beadboard but either want to think about it, or need to change something else first. I used the wallpaper in my powder room and will switch to the real thing when I eventually change out the countertop.

Since you and your husband like projects - I refinished an older wood bathroom cabinet I had removed from another room, removed the door panel and had it replaced with glass:

Although it is "faux" the wallpaper looks surprisingly real and might be a way to try a look out as it is only $20 roll. I have real beadboard in my laundry room which is right across the hall from the powder room and I am never hit with a feeling of "this looks so fake next to the real thing". However, I would use the real beadboard in the bathroom.

lol...you sound like my hubby....let's finish the bathroom 1st...will do ;) Wow...it does look real...did you get it on line ? Funny you also mention the changing of your bathroom cabinet door....which looks great by the way. I was thinking of removing the panels on the armoire and replace them with decorative glass maybe?? (can't think of what it's called at the moment) I'll try and find a picture. I love antique shopping myself :)

I got the wallpaper at Lowes. It is very easy to hang - I had never done wallpaper before and it went up easy. However, It is wallpaper and can rip. I hit the wall trying to hang the cabinet (what made me think I could do that by myself?) and put a small tear in the paper which I fixed the same way I would fix a wall - a little spackle and touch up paint. I would use real bead board in a bathroom with a shower - the wallpaper might not stay up with the steam.

The drawback to putting the glass in the door is now you need to keep the contents neat unless you shirr fabric or lace panels behind the glass - and also glass is breakable. I would use tempered glass on a large cabinet in case someone slipped and fell towards it.
