Remodeled half bath - beadboard and blue walls

We've finally finished remodeling our first floor bathroom. The majority of the work took about six months after work and on weekends - this was our first major DIY project. And now, since we survived this project we're on to remodeling the master bath! I learned tons here that helped with the planning, so thank you!

Here are the details....

Toilet Â Toto Drake, elongated bowl with sanagloss and softclose toilet seat in cotton white

Vanity Â Kraftmaid 48 inch vanity, all plywood, cherry, veneer recessed door in autumn blush

Countertop Â Home Depot Napoli pre-fab 48 inch granite countertop (our guess is that this is actually Luna Pearl or White Pearl)

Faucets Â Delta Neo, widespread in pearl nickel

Tile Â by Ricchetti, style is Indian Hills, color is grigio smoke

Beadboard Â Cape Cod planking from Home Depot

Mirror Â from Bombay Company

Fixtures Â Chatham toilet paper holder and towel holder from Restoration Hardware

Light Â Chelsea triple sconce from Restoration Hardware

Ventilation fan - Panasonic/Whisper Ceiling 70 CFM Ceiling Mounted Fan

Paint

Walls are Ralph Lauren "Overalls" in Behr interior flat enamel. I should have used paint with more enamel/shine, as this one burnishes very easily and creates a white mark.

Bead board and trim are Behr "Ultra Pure White" in semi-gloss enamel.

I ordered my bathroom beadboard via Nantucket Beadboard (www.beadboard.com) and LOVE it...It wasn't the cheapest option I had but I wanted it to hold up to moisture. My neighbors bath paint started peeling and separating after just a couple of years. You can go with strip products or sheet products. I went with strip products. And if you do go with sheet product, make sure it is thick enough and has a way to butt against each other and overlap.....so you don't get the awful joints. Especially awful on a light painted finish. Here's the link and a photo of my bathroom. For the whole room, I think it was around $300-$400...but definitely worth the quality material! Hi Funcolors, I enjoy reading your very informative posts. I need your advice please. I am in total agreement about glossiness accentuating imperfections but here is my dilema. I want my exterior paint job to hold up as long as possible and people keep telling me semi gloss and high gloss will hold up longer then flatter finish, AND will not stay so glossy for long so could it be if we sacrifice seeing the imperfections then later on we will graduate to a satin in time and get far more longevity as well? I saw a man's house done with a fancy european paint in red with green trim, high gloss, not everyone's cup of tea, but for his house it was stunning! He says he paints every year to keep up the gloss as it does diminish. As you say every flaw sticks out but all in all with his architecture and plantings it is lovely. I on the other hand have a colonial revival 1910 house not all that old and want a slightly off white base coat with bright white trim. I live in CT zone 6, everyone here is advocating SW duration for longevity. My painter says it will cost a lot more money for the application of an oil primer rather then these self priming paints. I am willing to spend more if I get more time with the paint job and am seeking your experience for longest lasting exterior with best color to go along with this criteria. Do you also have a good blue color for porch ceiling? Thanks so much for all your input!

Your beadboard is great but your white cupboards and table slay me! I also want your double sideboard sink. We only have the single version but I hope someday it will grow up like yours, lol.... Your floors should also be mentioned because they work so nicely with all the other elements and bring it all together. I would not sweat the ceiling color as you can always go lighter next time and without doing all the hard work of priming and hiding the knots and getting perfectly in the grooves. A ceiling is also easier to re-do after the fact as there are fewer obstacles on it. I had second thoughts on 2 of our colors so far and after trying to like them for a while, broke down and repainted. Their colors had been fine, but just not what I had hoped for. I went a shade lighter for one and 2 darker on the other. Then, each one felt just right. I'd give it time to see how it sits with you. I felt it was easier to re-do sooner than too far later on after being out of the mode of painting.

I have a bathroom at my lakehouse that is even smaller and it has beadboard from floor to and including ceiling. It's the original and 125 years old. We have the original tub and sink and it works so well. The fact that it is all the same makes it appear bigger. If you plan to put the beadboard on part of the wall I would say the lower half is the way to go, not halfway as it will cut the room to the viewers eye but about a foot higher. I think I would just paint above that since its a small bathroom and steam may impact the wallpaper.

Thanks for the compliments. The photos are mostly from our honeymoon to New Zealand with one or two other locations thrown in.

Now we're on to our master bathroom and bedroom remodel - it's good to look back at how bad the "before" was in the first floor and how far it came to remind myself what we can accomplish!

Thanks! The photos are ones we took on various trips - New Zealand, hiking with the dog, and the Grand Canyon.

The Kandinsky print (to the left of the window) is what drove the wall color, as originally we weren't planning on a complete remodel and I was trying to find something to tie together orange countertops, yellow toilet and sink and a third color for the walls. Thank goodness we decided to get rid of it all!

Amainah, I love your bathroom. I've printed your picture for inspiration in my bathroom remodel. My only negative is the window treatment. It's much to ordinary for that beautiful room. One question, from your picture, it looks like the beadboard has a ripple or is that just the camera angle? Or could the top trim piece be a little too flexible? I might opt for standard wood trim unless this is just an optical illusion.
