In a previous article, we showed you several ways to work an 8-by-5-foot bathroom layout, which is enough space for a shower, toilet and single-sink vanity. But in larger homes, and particularly in master bathrooms, many homeowners desire a more spacious layout that includes a separate shower and bathtub (or one large shower) and a double vanity.
If you consider standard- or average-size dimensions for a double vanity and shower, you’re looking at about 100 square feet (9.3 square meters) of space to make it all work together. And to help us round out a follow-up article, we want to see your similarly sized bathroom.
Show us: Post your before-and-after photos of a recently remodeled bathroom of about 100 square feet. Tell us the dimensions and what features got you the most bang for your buck in terms of storage, function and style.

Here, clerestory windows flood a white, marble-covered bathroom that measures 9½ by 9½ feet (about 90 square feet). It’s roomy enough for a double vanity, bathtub and 3-by-3-foot shower. Of course, 14-foot ceilings help keep things airy too.
This bathroom has about the same layout as the previous space, but the tub and shower position is flipped. The double vanity offers several storage options to make the most of the room’s 11 by 9 feet (99 square feet).
This bathroom, which is 12 by 9 feet (108 square feet), features an alternative layout, with two single vanities, a 4-by-5-foot shower and a 3-by-4-foot toilet alcove (not shown). A cathedral ceiling and large windows make it feel even larger.
Your turn: Upload your before-and-after photos of a 100-square-foot bathroom remodel and share what makes it special. Extra points for “before” photos and a sketch of your plan. Your story could be part of an upcoming feature on Houzz.

Bathroom remodel in Berkeley, CA, 85 sf remodel. Original bathroom was divided into two rooms (toilet in one, tub and sink in the other) as was typical for early craftsman houses in the area. We combined the two rooms for a more spacious and light filled bathroom big enough for a separate tub and shower. We kept the finishes clean with hand plaster "tadelakt" walls, and a cast stone shower pan.
before photos show two separate rooms.
After photos: Our simple palette of a few natural materials gave us the clean modern look we wanted, but stayed consistent to the natural woods and surfaces in the craftsman house. We use Tadelakt hand plaster on the walls for a clean look and Douglas fir flooring and vanity shelf to provide warmth. Clerestory windows and a shower skylight allow natural light but maintain privacy.
Beautiful materials and palette.
