Frameless glass enclosure for steam shower?
Comments (29)You have valid concerns and we take extra measures to acommodate steam vapor escape by treating the ceiling and/or adjoining painted surfaces outside the shower with usually an oil based primer and sometimes topcoat of paint . Steam rooms require a few things to be just right and if so you shouldnt have excessive release of vapor. Starting with the proper sized generator for the "adjusted cubic ft" A proper glass install with the acceptable tolerances ( we use sweep and bulb gaskets to compensate for minor inaccuracies and zip our steam showers up and then utilize the transom.) A transom smartly placed in relation to the Fan that also needs to be the proper CFM for the room and other hvac concerns,. Our fans are always on a timer, and preferably jumped on the same circuit as the showers interior light. You want the fan on from the start of the shower and remaining on for 30 +/- mins after you get out. I always suggest opening the transom and swinging the shower door IN to the shower when done. On this steamer ceiling we used the existing bathroom fan and planned ahead and had the painter coat our cedar install with sikens marine grade topcoat. Hope that helps a bit in your effort to rectify your concerns.-best...See Moreglass tub shield or shower curtain?
Comments (8)I have experienced the half glass on the tubs in a few hotels too. The first one I saw was fixed and it was almost impossible to reach in the tub/ shower and start the water without getting wet. A real hassle. Also when taking a shower, not only does the water get splashed on the floor, but was also cold without full coverage of all glass or a shower curtain. But it looked really cool. On another visit, had seen another one but this one was hinged so you could reach in and turn on the water. This one was longer down the tub than the other hotel had it and was a little over hall way down the full length (where as the first one was almost just 1/3) and it was better in that aspect, but there still was water on the floor when I finished and was still cold due to the air movement in the room. The bottom of the movable panel also did not have a lip on it like a standard shower door has, so it was a real mess. Maybe adding that strip would help, but then there are the other problems. I had been thinking of a future second bath upgrade and liked these looks, but the function is sorely lacking. So will put that on hold till I work out this and other details. I have seen some nicer upscale sliding doors and that might be what I go with....See MoreVery large shower with 4' tub?
Comments (6)Are you big bathers? Have you ever bathed in a four ft tub? I chose a large jetted shower over a smaller shower and five ft free standing tub because none of the models that small held more than 15 inches of water and the short length was uncomfortable to us. We added storage instead of the tub and have no regrets but we do have a six ft tub with a water depth of 18 in our hall bath for a nice soak which I only do once or less a year. If I took more frequent soaks I would want a perfect tub and smaller shower in my master but as a couple who love a nice daily shower and only a yearly soak I preferred a large shower with multiple water heads and room for a bench and added storage to a small tub and small shower. my real estate market also does not mandate the need for a master with a tub. Walk in large spa showers are the desired feature in my area but it might be different regionally so talking to a real estate agent might be wise....See Moreprice for glass shower door on a tub
Comments (13)I can’t answer your original question (sorry!), but I can clear up the other stuff. ;) My architect agrees. He says if u do put Kerdi over wall board there will be a lip and a problem for tile Since Kerdi Waterproofing Membrane, not Kerdi-Board, goes over the green board, there is no lip: “Waterproofing for tiled showers with a bathtub can be done in a couple of ways, both equally effective. KERDI-BOARD is ideal for use instead of gypsum or cement board in cases where the wall studs are accessible, while the KERDI waterproofing membrane is perfect for application over wall boards already in place.” Schluter®-KERDI-TUBKIT The Schluter®-KERDI-TUBKIT contains all the components necessary to create a fully waterproof and vapor tight bathtub surround assembly. Designed to create a fully waterproof and vapor-tight enclosure for tiled bathtub surrounds Contains waterproofing membrane, and waterproofing strip, pipe seal, mixing valve seal, and sealing and bonding compound...See Morechispa
