How high can I mount roman shades in this space?

We remodeled our kitchen recently and ended up having to get rid of our previous shades because they were too wide. I’m in the process of sewing faux roman shades now because we realized we never covered the window anyway, but I’m stumped on how high they should go. Originally I assumed they’d start just above the old mount, and now I’m wondering if they should go higher because of the cabinets? The fabric isn’t particularly sheer so the window silhouette shouldn’t be too obvious.

I’d probably go higher than the old mount - elongate the look. Can you try taping fabric at various spots to get an idea?

I tried staging it but the fabric piece is too heavy to just tape now :| I do lean toward pushing it higher... If not all the way to the top? My hangup is over whether it’s tacky or weird-looking to fake that much window height.

With the ORB fixtures/shower frame, as well as the tan tile, imo, a dark color would look very rich. I can't recall reading any posts where you've used white, but have focused on more dramatic, deeper colors, so that's my logic for suggexting a darker color, unifying what you have in your home already. I have the Bamboo Romans in three of the bedrooms and family room and love them. I've had no problem with any of them in the 7 years they have been up and my son was able to hang them, which was very easy. I have unlined, but they can be custom ordered w/lining.

In such a small space as a camper I say KISS ! If the linen curtains offer the privacy and light control needed then use them instead of the shades.

They of course WILL make them. and what they will not tell you is it is GONNA be a pain in the rear end. Over time, simply the lift and strain on rings and cords, and the heat that builds up with every yank, will "burn out" the cords. Then.......no matter how well crafted? Plan for puff and fluff ritual with every yank back to raised position. You can spend the money and find out. I wouldn't let a client do it at that width. Do as you will. Come back with the regrets: ) The treatment is INAPPROPRIATE for your windows. But yes....... someone will be happy to take your money. The corner will be the least of the issues. Hide an inside mount privacy treatment under a "fixed and never moving " roman shade valance. Or do not do it at all. Ya heard it here.

I would probably go all the way up and cover that whole recess, specially if you have a pretty fabric that will add some softness and interest to your very neutral kitchen.

Going to the top prevents you from adding one more more horizontal line.

Cover as little of the window as possible and keep that tall/open/airy feeling. Not tacky or weird to cover up a piece of drywall that doesn't add anything to your kitchen!

Thanks, chispa. I appreciate the high confidence input! My husband thought it shouldn’t go higher than before which was what made for extra second-guessing.

The fabric is a floral patterned seafoam/pale teal and it’s definitely my hope that it’ll help with this blandness that’s been nagging me.
