I'm going on a dream vacation!

The other day my sister told me that her and 4 other highschool friends were getting together in New York. I told my sister that it sounded like a lot of fun and now I am going too! Me and two of the friends will be flying from Wichita to Syracuse, my sister will be flying in from Orlando and we will be staying at our girlfriend's brother's house. When my sister told me it was a 17 bedroom house, I thought she must of meant 17 rooms. But she was correct and there are 17 bedrooms in this house! I don't know what all we have planned, but I know we are taking a Rail Bike trail ride through the Adirondacks. This vacation will occur in October, so hopefully no one buys this house before that.

I had bad dreams last night about this Garlic Cheese fiasco. I was going to every store I could find looking for Kraft garlic cheese roll because I HAD to have cheese grits for dinner. Lord luv a duck, what a night. Meldy, I've made the grits with garlic powder when I was visiting yankee cousins and they requested them, it just wasn't the same. That old cheese roll (previously put out by Kraft) was just the right thing when you added cheddar to it. Suzy, thank you for taking the time to send me the link to the Amish store. I checked out the site and later on today when I get a chance, I want to order some other things also and of course get the cheese. If it works out for my grits, Kraft will be forever in your debt. I fired a warning arrow across their bow this morning. A BOYCOTT by the genteel southern ladies casserole brigade if they don't fire up that garlic cheese vat pronto.:0)

Kind of scary... all that excitement... and I'm supposed to be part of the entertainment... Didn't I ever tell you I start each day by peering into the bathroom mirror and saying "Now THERE is a reliable disappointment..." Sometimes Idiot She calls me Eeyore... but I think he was too much of an optimist for my taste... I like the Thelma and Louise thing... except for the whole killing the guy, blowing up the truck, driving off a cliff thing. Think we'll try to dial back the excitement a little...

Wow mtn, those sound like amazing trips. I truly believe the planning part of the trip is almost as pleasureable as the trip itself. But I love to plan and research, sounds like you do too. I read recently that spending money on travel can make good economic sense in terms of value for money spent. First you research, plan and dream of the trip, then you do it, then you continue to reap benefits through memories, photos and the knowledge (and possible friendships) you gain. I'm convinced! :) Regarding MP in December, the issue is rain. Given your time constraints I'm guessing you're not hiking in on the Inca trail? It could be miserable hiking (unless you enjoy hiking in the rain, many people do. I'm a wimp though). If you're not hiking try to leave yourself a couple of days open to make the ascent by train/bus from Cusco. That way you should have enough flexibility to get up there in a rain free window. Cusco is a wonderful place to spend a couple of days. I didn't make it to Lake Titicaca, but I've heard it is definitely worth the trip. I enjoyed the Nazca lines ( we flew over them) in Peru, and the pyramids near Trujillo. I didn't make it to the Peruvian amazon, wish I did. And I just loved th Pisco Sour I had in Pisco! I had planned a nearly year long trip for 2016, my kids will be in grades 3 and 6 then. I wanted to circle the Pacific, down through Peru and Chile, to Easter Island, then on to NZ, Australa, up through Asia to Vladivostok then back to Vancouver. It would be an incredible learning experience for them, but I'm starting to pull back a bit. First it is likely too ambitious with relatively young kids, ie exhausting. Second, my kids go to school in French and a year away from French may be too much. So I may just take the easy path and spend the better part of the year based in France, with frequent excursions around Europe. Fun planning regardless. I've lived in St. Lucia, Austria (Vienna), Russia (Moscow & St. Petersburg), the UK (outside London) along with some shorter working stints in Bosnia and Romania. My parents spent a decade in Costa Rica, so I spent a fair bit of time there too, and in Panama. Most of my young adulthood was spent in Europe, or planning to get to Europe, so my travel experience in largely Euro based. I need to get out more! :)

Ladies may I join you in this discussion? I am a young healthy looking 62. And today is my first visit here after looking up adrenaline I sure understand better now That's what I have going on MY NATURE'S PACE MAKER.working. Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Now I think i know what as going on for long time hidden from doc view. Electric shock adrenaline style

I strongly suggest that you do a boat tour of the Raquette Lake Great Camps, a stone's throw from where you will be staying. I spent every summer of my life from -1 to 16 at Camp Pine Knot (C.P. Huntington Memorial Camp), the very first of the Great Camps, designed and built by William West Durant in the 1870s.

WOW--that's fabulous, Jewels!! Even without all that luxury, you'll love the Adirondacks. My DH grew up in that area. So beautiful. Bring your hiking shoes!

My mother's family is from around that part of the world. That is one of the few areas of the country that I've visited more than once. It is beautiful! So glad you have a chance to go!

Leaf color in that region starts in mid-September and peaks near Oct. 1. The woods will be full of leaf peepers on weekends. I envy you!! Take a good camera.

The weather can be highly variable. Expect dampness to rain every 3rd day. You may have cool nights with warm afternoons. Watch the hurricane tracks for clues. A hurricane sweeping up the coast will bring rain to that region.
