Need help figuring out a dining table for my Small Dining Room
Comments (9)I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms....See Moreneed help with my dining room color/ceiling color in living room
Comments (1)Are you saying light comes from the north until late in the day, or are you saying there is a window facing north and a window facing west.? The reason I ask is that light that enters from a north-facing window is bluer and lacks intensity. Subtle color is washed out to gray. The Inchyra Blue is very dark, looking more charcoal with a green tone to me. I would choose the Cooks Blue. Here is a comparison I put together of those two colors with some blues from your rug. While the actual colors may be off due to how color can vary from monitor to monitor Cooks Blue is brighter and won't fade as much in northern light. Also, having a brighter blue on the walls should bring out the blue in your rug. The only way to know how it looks in your room is to buy a sample and paint a board as you did for other colors. Keep in mind that the color temperature of light bulbs you use will also affect the colors of your walls and furnishings. Color Temperature is expressed as Kelvin but is not a measure of heat. Warm-white bulbs have a color temp of 2700K which is kind to skin tones but gives a yellow light. Daylight bulbs have color temperature of 5000K to 6500K, but are harsh to skin tones and emit a blue-white light. Both CFL and LED bulbs come in various color temperatures. I recommend you choose bulbs with color temperature between 3500K and 4500K for a more neutral result. HERE is a photo of how different K-value lighting affects the appearance of color. You might have to visit a lighting store or light bulb specialty store to find neutral white bulbs. As to ceiling colors, people seldom look up. Unless your light fixtures are dramatic or the ceiling color is distinct I doubt anyone will notice if two adjacent rooms have different ceiling colors as long as there is a Framed Passageway between them....See MoreI need help with my dining room!
Comments (21)I agree with Beverly and would center the dining set, rug and light fixture with the mirror/table vignette at the end. Perhaps the bar is an issue. Move it to the living room where drinks can be served before exiting to the dining room for dinner parties. I like the rug but find it a bit small. It should be 6 feet larger than the table top in both directions to allow for chair scoot and sit space without chairs falling off of it. Another pretty flower could be Calla Lilies....See MoreHelp I need to decorate my dining room area
Comments (4)To start i would remove all the open shelving in the kitchen that cannot be reached easily....this just adds a cluttered feel and draws the eye too high... also remove the small shelving units until you are finished furnishing..and can find a spot where they fit and serve a purpose.... for your described lifestyle i would not want the kitchen so open to view...either an island or another L in the peninsula will give you lots of extra storage and seating and an inviting spot for buffets...or party food.... NEXT....Since you have such an open floor plan i would select big beautiful decorative rugs to define all the different areas....to guide you in decor and furniture color choices....but most importantly provide you with a perfect guide for what size furnishings will fit in each area...See MoreShannon Ebron
