need help with my dining room color/ceiling color in living room

Decided to bring my rug on site during the final phase of construction to try to get a good color match vs trying to choose from a photo. Room has light coming from North and West into a breezeway.

Someone recommended FB Inchrya Blue and although I love it I'm hesitant because it is so dark (need advise yay or nay to go dark). Trim is white dove - ceiling is FB Shadow White. Living Room adjacent is FB Old White and the other door leads to FB Dropcloth in family room (great color btw).

Other recs have been FB Oval Room Blue (poster on rug but may be too aqua) and BM Van Courtland Blue (sample on NE wall) or BM Van Deusen (also dark). I also tried FB Pigeon (too grey) and may not offer enough contrast with the living room color.Someone prior rec matching fringe on rug but again may be too close to LR color. Any color suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Second question - ceiling colors differ from LR (FB Lime White) and DR (Shadow White). Should I keep this area all consistent. FB specialist seemed to think due to the size of the living room it needed a warmer ceiling? Advice?

We have the same problem - trying to find a creamy beige with a little gold. Don't know about lighting in your space, but we have little natural light and rely on recessed lights. We think we're going with BM Oatmeal in the living room and above the chair rail in the dining room, and then BM Monroe Bisque below the chair rail in the dining room. We like BM White Opulence as a trim color - in our house, it looks like a crisp white, not too blue and not too pink. And, maybe surprisingly, BM Oatmeal doesn't look lifeless on our walls. A close second for BM Oatmeal was BM Simply Irresistible, but it looked a little too yellow. Good luck!!

Agree with Annie about not letting labels dictate how you use your rooms/house. Our current house has a living room, dining room, family room and one more large living space. We use the living room in the front as the TV room, the central open family room is more formal, the dining room as labeled, and the extra living space is the kids playroom with another TV and their desks/computers/storage. There used to be just a hallway opening between the playroom and the central family room. I had a contractor add a door, so that we don't have to worry about keeping it perfectly neat and it is nice being able to close the door when there are several kids playing a noisy game. I love not having the main TV in the central open family room. Much nicer being in the kitchen without having to put up with sports shows.

I would suggest looking for a beautiful rug that you love--it should have at least some of the colors you have already used in your rooms. Use the rug as in "inspiration" and tie-together piece. From your description, I think using your ocean blue in the kitchen area would be nice. What color are the existing walls? You would have to figure out if there is a good stopping point to switch paint colors. Good luck, and we DO want to see pictures.
