How much imidacloprid should I be using

Well I did read the imidacloprid application rates and stuff but there is some logical issue or I am missing something.
It says For shrubs use at a rate of 0.1 to 0.4 ounces per foot of height. Which means around 3 to 12 grams per foot of height.
Now I have a 1000 square feet plot where I have 22 shrubs.
In the very next paragraph it says never use more than 0.4 lbs that is around 180 grams per acre/year. LOL at this rates I can only use 4 grams per 1000 sqft per year.
How is this possible.
And why am I only allowed to use 0.4 lbs per acre/year ( Yes I know about ground water leeching etc ) just asking if there are other side effects or am I still missing something.
PS : I am not into chemical warfare with pests. I usually stick to neem oil and soaps but after seeing the total havoc from last 2 years I needed something to get me back on track.

You probably don't want to hear this but I wouldn't use it at all. It's been illegal to use on flowering crops in the the European Union since 2013 and has just been banned for all outdoor use. I wouldn't want something like that in my garden.

If you need to ask, you are using too much. I know that sounds rather flip but it is true.

What are you trying to control? And on what plants? Most of the insects imidacloprid and its cousins are intended to control can be easily and efficiently treated by other means. Neonicotinoids ar seriously being discouraged from use because they have systemic qualities, remain in the plant with repect to pollen, nectar and seeds and are considered to be one of the reasons behind the demise of honeybees and hive collapse. And if you are eating plants/vegetables treated with imidacloprid or other neonics, you are consuming the pesticide as well. And its impact on humans is of concern and is undergoing scientific study.

Eliot Coleman goes into some detail about seed spacing in Four Season Harvest. The goal is to have minimal soil showing when the plant is at full maturity. If you know the recommended spacing for a single row, calculate how many rows to plant by fitting that in to the width of your bed; in other words, if your bed is 36" and your spacing is 10", you can fit 3 rows in. The outer rows should be at 1/2 the spacing distance, so in this case 5" from the edge of the bed. The middle row should be staggered in relation to the other two - your first 5 seeds will resemble the "5" side of a playing die. For baby greens, you would want 3" spacing, so you would get 11 rows, with the outer rows starting 1 1/2" from the edge of the bed. The assumption with intensive spacing, which is what Square Foot Gardening and wide bed planting are based on, is that you have created an optimal growing condition for the crop, so you can squeeze more in without risking having too little fertility or water. If you think your soil in the beds will need a few more years of improvement, you will get better results with wider spacing... and a bit more weeding.

Plants will tell you. I've actually been changing things up using CRF fertilizers for base nutrient levels, and then use additional fertilizers to bring it up to luxury levels. It's less work, and heavy rain doesn't empty plants of all their nutrients. I wouldn't suggest using this method in an arid area where fertigation is probably the best course, but for an area that gets lots of rain, and bark chips are less then well composted, this method works great. I prefer 3-1-2 ratio early, then less nitrogen for fruiting.

What is confusing about this post is that in the US FRT sheathing has no fire-resistance rating only a flame spread and smoke contribution classification and it does not improve the fire endurance of a fire-rated assembly such as a one-hour exterior wall to any significant extent. Why it would be specified or required inside of a wall assembly that might be exposed to a fire in an adjacent building is puzzling. The only time I have needed to use FRT wood framing was in a non-combustible multi-family structure and it would not have been acceptable in many others states. In a wood framed building typical US codes are concerned with limiting the temperature of a wall surface on the opposite side of a fire for a specific amount of time and for the assembly to still be intact after a hose stream test. If I were the architect I would not be concerned with FRT sheathing where not required but the construction of the wall to provide adequate fire protection which so far appears to be missing. The use of a wood fiber and concrete composite siding would have little or no effect on the time inhabitants or the fire service will have to do what they need to do. I would not spend one cent on putting in grass or an irrigation system or any live landscaping whatsoever. It makes no sense whatsoever for you to spend your hard-earned money making improvements to a property that you do not own, and the money you spend can never be deducted from your taxes or re-couped in any way. Furthermore, the cost of water is prohibitive where you live, and watering a yard costs a lot of money. Once you put in a yard, you will have to maintain it, or it will look even worse. In the summer in southern California many places prohibit the watering of lawns for weeks on end because of water shortages and what you put in now will die. Right now, you were given a wasteland. That's what you need to give it back to the landlord as, unless your lease says otherwise. Please carefully read your lease and make sure he didn't slip something in about your putting in grass. If not, take multiple photos of the front and back and side yards that have the date on them, and and have the landlord sign them on the back, and you sign them too, and you keep a couple of copies and give a set to the landlord. I would add a codicil to the lease that both of you sign saying something like photographs are given to the landlord showing the current condition of the front, back and side yards with no living vegetation whatsoever and piles of dead vegetation. The lessee (that is you) bears no responsibility for planting these areas. As the dead vegetation is present at move-in of the lessee deemed a fire hazard it is the responsibility of the lessor (that is the landlord) to mitigate the hazard as soon as possible but in any event no later than 10 working days of notification of such hazard if it exists. And then you should contact the local fire house and have someone come out and see if the conditions constitute a fire hazard. If they do consider it a fire hazard, get it in writing on official fire department letterhead. Because if they do consider it a fire hazard, your renters insurance (do you have that by the way?) may not even cover your damages because they may consider it negligence. And do you really want to try to sue your landlord for the value of your posessions? And why should you have to pay someone to clean up the mess that previous tenants made? Did you clean up their dirty kitchen? NO So don't clean up their dirty and unsafe yard. For the Houzzers that are unaware, California is a tinderbox.

As I already mentioned I haven't used any chemicals since two years. But situation needs me to use it sparingly and that is the reason I asked. If by asking it means I am using too much then someone needs to reread the question which states clearly that I haven't used it and am myself against using it but when all options are not working and you are on verge of losing your established old roses then something needs to be done.

I was advised by local rose society and where I live it is not illegal to use it.

Thanks for not answering the questions and letting me know how bad it is for bees when global imidacloprid sales are topping the charts.

Cigarette sales and use topped the global charts a few generations ago, and now half of my hospice patients are dying from lung cancer. Dangers are not always obvious up front, and the companies raking in the profits are not in any hurry to investigate them.

Definitely agree :) People are getting diabetes and strokes but they still gobble up big unhealthy burgers and fries with sugar filled sodas. If I stop eating burger or smoking I don't think I might be able to survive :'(

Yes exactly. People are dying of stuffing big burgers and fries in their stomachs and they aren't able to walk or sit due to obesity. Sugar filled sodas are also topping the charts LOL.

But I guess using imidacloprid according to label or asking about it is not a good idea.

I think I will just go and have some double cheese burgers with some fries and cola. I am now getting worried about global warming and illegal fishing as well as increasing internet usage among teens.
